Gellar will play Kathryn Merteuil in the TV sequel to the 1999 movie.
Last week Sarah Michelle Gellar announced she’d be reprising her role as Kathryn Merteuil in NBC's Cruel Intentions sequel pilot. Now the 38-year-old actress is really starting to get into character, as she’s switched her trademark blonde locks for Kathryn’s dark-brown do.
Gellar posted a photo of her new hair on Instagram writing, ‘What is happening????’. Later she shared a fuller pic of her new look with the caption: ‘#brownhairdontcare (actually kind of love it!!) thank you everyone’.
Saturday (March 5th) marked the 17th anniversary of the original Cruel Intentions film and Gellar revealed she spent the day reading the script for the new NBC pilot. The pilot was co-written by Roger Kumble, who also wrote and directed the 1999 movie.
Gellar announced she would be part of the TV pilot last week, by sharing a photo of herself and Kumble along with executive producer Neal H. Moritz, on the eve of shooting Cruel Intentions, alongside a present day pic of the trio.
‘This picture was taken on the eve of production on the original #cruelintentions,’ Gellar wrote. ‘Its me #rogerkumble (director) and #nealmoritz (exec producer) and the other is a picture of us now on the eve of production on the new #cruelintentions. That's right "everybody loves me, and I intend to keep it that way" #kathrynmerteuil is back!!! I am happy to say that I will be joining them (and @nbctv ) on the new #Crueltv.’
The pilot will pick up 15 years after the events of the movie, with Gellar’s character now vying for control of her late brother Sebastian Valmont’s company, Valmont International. Kathryn will also have to use her powers of manipulation on Sebastian’s son, Bash Casey, after he discovers his late father's legacy in a hidden journal and is introduced to a world of sex, money, power and corruption.
