We've Seen Inside Her Home, So Is Sarah Jessica Parker Relly Carrie Bradshaw?

Sarah Jessica Parker

Sarah Jessica Parker is Carrie Bradshaw. Ok maybe they’re not totally the same person, but the actress and the famous character she played are inextricably linked forever in our minds. Every time Sarah finds herself on a red carpet you hear things like ‘Sarah wearing a very Carrie-esque dress ’ or ’what would Carrie Bradshaw make of Sarah’s fashion choice?’ We just can't get away from the comparisons. Which brings us to Sarah’s latest interview, Vogue’s 5 minute quick-fire walk through of her New York townhouse. So is Sarah, Carrie? Well this recent insight has left us drawing comparisons all over again.

Sarah Jessica Parker invited us and Vogue into her New York townhouseSarah Jessica Parker invited us and Vogue into her New York townhouse

Firstly Sarah’s house is beautiful, it’s impeccably decorated and has a wonderful old worldly, vintage feel. Actually, it’s miles away from the apartment she nearly bought with Mr Big in the ‘Sex and the City’ movie. The real life Parker digs are little more what you’d image Carrie would have had if she’d married Aidan. It’s also pretty full of everything from globes to baseballs and lots and lots of books. You can easily spot what might be a few touches from her husband Matthew Broderick (ping pong table!) We’re going to say cluttered chic, but of course this is meant in the most complimentary way possible.

Pay attention everyone, because Sarah Jessica Parker is doing things again. She’s not releasing any shoe collections this time, but the tour she recently gave Vogue of her New York townhouse is just as exciting. Obviously, it’s an East Village townhouse, so it would be great, whoever was hosting, but Parker just adds a certain je ne sais quoi to the whole thing.

Sarah Jessica Parker Returns To Spotlight With Nordstrom Shoe Line

Sarah Jessica Parker

In news that shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone, Sarah Jessica Parker launches her new line of shoes tomorrow. The Sex & the City star has teamed up with Nordstrom and George Malkemus to launch SJP. It’s been a long time in the making. It’s been 10 years since Sex & The City and Parker’s creative relationship with Malkemus goes back even further, but SJP had good reasons for taking her time.

Sarah Jessica Parker
It took a while, but SJP finally launches this Friday.

"I won't sell a shoe to someone that isn't well-made or timeless. I feel honor-bound to a large group of women. I am overly cognizant and aware that I would not have this opportunity if it were not for the commitment those women made to me over the years," Parker told USA Today "I have no interest in selling them a bill of goods or convincing them to buy something I would not wear myself."

Is 'Sex And The City' 3 Really Such A Good Idea?

Sarah Jessica Parker Chris Noth

Sex and the City executive producer, Michael Patrick King, has hinted that there may be another movie in the pipelines. HBO’s hugely successful series Sex and the City ran between 1998 and 2004 and practically defined, and revolutionised, an entire generation of women. Who didn’t live vicariously through Samantha's sex life, or start believing that men really can change when Big finally came through in the end?

sex and the city 3 Will the girls be returning for a third Sex and the City movie?

Fans of the show felt that they knew Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda intimately (in every sense of the word) when the show concluded in 2004, and you’ll still hear ‘the girls’ used in reference today, a decade after the show finished.

Sarah Jessica Parker Reunited With Manolo Blahnik For Her Very Own Shoe Collection

Sarah Jessica Parker

Sarah Jessica Parker and Manolo Blahnik – a match made in TV heaven – is about to come to life. We all remember Carrie Bradshaw’s pink frilly stilettos, but the real-life collection the star is going to create with the brand won’t be quite as extravagant. Parker will be working with Manolo CEO George Malkemus to launch the line, which will have, above all, variety. "In a silly way, I think it's what people have expected of me because of Carrie Bradshaw," Parker told Vogue.com, referencing the shoe-obsessed character she played for six years on Sex and the City." Indeed, Parker’s latest venture comes as no surprise to anyone. In fact, with Sex and the City having wrapped nearly a decade ago (What two movies? We don’t know what you’re talking about and will maintain this story) the only question is, what took them so long?

As for the shoes themselves, the line will contain mostly simple pumps and flats. The most impressive thing about the pieces, according to SJP will be the color combinations used. "We're putting new colors together that people don't typically do, just beautiful combinations that you wish existed in your closet," Parker told Vogue.com.

The different pairs will run between $200 and $300, available exclusively at Nordstrom early next year. And shoes aren’t the only pieces that the actress and Malkemus are designing together. Apparently bags are next: "And in terms of bags, thinking about the period of the seventies into the eighties, what those women were carrying, taking away the bells and the whistles and hardware and really making it about the bag."

Sarah Jessica Parker Lives Carrie Bradshaw’s Dream With New Shoe Line

Sarah Jessica Parker

Sarah Jessica Parker is best known for her role as Carrie Bradshaw, and Carrie Bradshaw, despite being written as a strong, female character, is best known for her love of shoes. So it’s fitting that Parker is starting a line of shoes.

"In a silly way, I think it's what people have expected of me because of Carrie Bradshaw," Parker told Vogue.com. "Because I got to play that role, I wore a lot of shoes," Parker added. "And by default I learned an enormous amount. It's hard to walk away from that." Pumps and flats – We’re reliably informed they’re called - will cost between $200 and $300, and will be available exclusively at Nordstrom early next year. Bags will cost under $700. That’s under, in case you thought they were really expensive or anything. "We're putting new colors together that people don't typically do, just beautiful combinations that you wish existed in your closet," Parker explained. "And in terms of bags, thinking about the period of the seventies into the eighties, what those women were carrying, taking away the bells and the whistles and hardware and really making it about the bag."

Sarah Jessica Parker Checks Out 'Tilda Swinton Sleeping In A Box'

Tilda Swinton Sarah Jessica Parker

Modern art fans, movie buffs and hipsters alike flocked down to the Museum of Modern Art in New York this week to see Scottish actress Tilda Swinton sleeping in a big glass box. Her piece 'The Maybe' - originally devised in collaboration with Cornelia Parker - sees Swinton in a state of slumber while museum visitors and culture critics stare at her, and it's all in the name of art.

A furious and largely predictable debate has erupted as to whether Tilda Swinton sleeping in a box can be considered art, though - let's face it - all New Yorkers really care about is that Tilda Swinton, star of Burn After Reading, We Need To Talk About Kevin and Moonrise Kingdom is sleeping in a box. Swinton-mania is reaching boiling point and with news that the actress will only feature in the exhibition 'occasionally' - there's now a dedicated Tumblr dedicated to answering the question of the minute, "Is Tilda Swinton Sleeping In A Box?" The answer today is, "Yes. Tilda Swinton is sleeping in a box today at MoMA. It's art."

According to People magazine, Swinton has had her fair share of celebrity visitors, including Sarah Jessica Parker, Matthew Broderick and James Franco, though not everyone is impressed. The New York magazine's Jerry Saltz was seething at the fact that - even in today's uncertain times for the arts - the museum is overcrowded. "Visiting there now is unpleasant because the museum has been so overcrowded since its 2004 makeover. The event also has inner content: MoMA is narcissistically puffing its celebrity feathers, playing at being avant-garde." Perhaps sticking Tilda Swinton in a glass box now-and-again will encourage those who wouldn't normally trek out to the museum to stop by, and, who knows, take a look at the other non-Tilda Swinton work while they're at it.

Sarah Jessica Parker “Not Sure” About The Carrie Diaries

Sarah Jessica Parker

Sarah Jessica Parker made her name as Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and The City, which, after 6 successful seasons, came back in the form of two poorly received films. So what does SJP think of the latest reboot of the franchise: The Carrie Diaries?

Well she thinks AnnaSophia Robb – who plays a young Carrie - is “lovely,” but she’s “not sure” how she feels about the series. “You know, I think it’s one of those tests of your generosity,” Parker said. “[AnnaSophia] is a lovely girl and I want her to feel good about, but it’s… odd.” ‘Odd’ isn’t perhaps what the people behind Diaries wanted to here. We doubt it anyway. SJP was talking in an interview with luxury shopping site Net-A-Porter.com’s online magazine The Edit. It’s probably for the best that Jessica-Parker isn’t actually involved with the series any more, as it sounds like her bust lifestyle over the past decade has damaged her, physically.

Marion Cotillard Jessica Chastain Sarah Jessica Parker Juno Temple Helen Mirren

Gemma Arterton, BAFTAS, 2013If Looks Could Kill! Gemma Arterton Eyes Up Young Actress Juno Temple

The Hollywood glitterati must have wondered why they’d bothered to turn up for the BAFTAs at the Royal Opera House in London on Sunday night (February 10, 2013). On a frankly dismal evening in the nation’s capital, umbrellas were commonplace on the red-carpet with publicists, media types and event organisers running around like headless chickens, hastily attempting to give the press pack their photographs without drowning the likes of Jennifer Lawrence, Jennifer Chastain and Helen Mirren in the cold British rain and sleet. Best pals George Clooney and Ben Affleck were seen taking shelter under the same umbrella, while actress Gemma Arterton looked absolutely freezing as she waited for up-and-coming star Juno Temple to finish working it for the cameras.

In terms of awards, it was a relatively straight-forward evening, hosted with typical panache by everyone’s favourite Briton, Stephen Fry. Ang Lee’s Life of Pi performed strongly in the technical categories – as it is expected to do at the Oscars later this month – while Skyfall won Best British Film. However, it was Ben Affleck’s Argo that took the evening’s key prize – that of Best Picture – leaving Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln to settle for Best Actor, for the peerless Daniel Day-Lewis. Best Actress went to the 85-year-old Emmanuelle Riva, which left Jennifer Lawrence and Silver Linings Playbook director David O’Russell looking quite frankly bemused.

'The Carrie Diaries' Labelled 'Bland' And 'Inept' By Critics

Sex And The City AnnaSophia Robb Sarah Jessica Parker

New teen drama 'The Carrie Diaries' received mixed reviews after airing on Monday night (January 14th 2013) on CW with critics calling the show 'bland' and 'inept'.

The series was made as a prequel to 'Sex And The City' looking into the teenage life of Carrie Bradshaw (played by Sarah Jessica Parker in SATC) in the '80s in Connecticut. Young Carrie is played by AnnaSophia Robb who appeared alongside Johnny Depp in the 2005 adaptation of 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory'. However, many critics have slammed the show for a number of different reasons. Matthew Gilbert from The Boston Globe called it 'somewhat bland' before knocking the appearance of the actress in comparison to Sarah Jessica Parker. 'She's not as small and angular, and she has a softer temperament', he said. 'I spent too much time during the premiere trying to morph Robb into Parker in my mind's eye.' Matt Zoller Seitz from The Vulture was even more cold about the show. 'The characters are bland', he said before calling it 'an inept spin off that dishonours its source' and accusing it of 'wanting to cash in on 'Sex and the City'.

The slightly warmer reviews came from Robert Lloyd at the LA Times. 'The situations are stock - John Hughes wrote this playbook pretty thoroughly - and the dialogue does not exactly crackle', he said, while Tim Goodman from The Hollywood Reporter said: 'It's kind of quaint and far less cynical than 'Gossip Girl''.

Sex And The City Prequel To Premier Tonight, What's It About?

Sarah Jessica Parker Sex And The City

You'd think both of the Sex And The City movies were fair warning: stop trying to make money out of the franchise, it'll never be as good as the series and it's getting embarrassing. Do they listen? You know the answer to that.

Now, tonight in fact, the SATC prequel will be on televisions, telling the story of the show's lead Carrie Bradshaw, as she makes her journey from Connecticut to Manhattan due to the death of her mother. "This is a younger Carrie. I mean, we're first meeting Carrie in 1984, and she's 16, so she's just getting introduced to New York and her first love and fashion, and she's really finding herself as a writer and trying to find her voice," star AnnaSophia Robb told MTV News at the series' red-carpet premiere in October. Author Candace Bushnell, says it's difficult to compare the prequel to the main show. "I never know how to answer that question," Bushnell said when asked to do just that. "Both Carries are really close to me."

"I just really tried to capture being a teenager in a small town, and although your life is perfectly fine, for some reason you want more," she continued. "You want to see the world, and you really want to experience the world. And the Carrie in 'Sex and the City' had that dream, but she's experiencing it, and she's gotten there, whereas the Carrie in 'The Carrie Diaries' is just trying to figure out how to get there."

'Manhattan! My First True Love' Sex And The City Prequel 'The Carrie Diaries'

AnnaSophia Robb Sarah Jessica Parker

Sex and the City was, for many, the defining show for women of the late '90s and early noughties, leaving a legacy that has continued into two enormous movies within the last eight years. Now, to capitalise on that enormous success, and to draw an entirely new cohort of Carrie Bradshaw fans, the CW have commissioned a prequel series called The Carrie Diaries, aimed at teenagers rather than women, and set in 1984 with a loose aim of laying down the foundations of Carrie's love of fashion, men and Manhattan.

The trailer for this new series was released over the weekend (27th Oct 2012). Despite the clip seeming to give away a huge variety of potential spoilers for the series (in fact, it may just be the whole first episode squeezed into 3 minutes) there are elements of promise. To round up: a young Carrie Bradshaw returns to high school after a summer spent grieving for her mother. A new boy, handsome and interested in Carrie arrives at school, and her friends divulge that they've lost their virginity. Carrie's father, worried about her welfare and trying to keep her busy, organises and internship for her in Manhattan where she meets someone in the publishing business- Larissa- who gives her her business card. Exciting!

Certainly, its doubtful that those of us that love Sex and the City will also love The Carrie Diaries- the target demographic is just far too different, and it doesn't seem to be quite capturing the glamour, extravagance and sex-appeal that was captivating about Bradshaw and her friends. However, there is promise and it seems likely that it will be a mixture of Clueless and Ugly Betty- no bad thing. The Carrie Diaries will begin airing in January 2013 and will be starring AnnaSophia Robb, who you may recognise from 2005's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and 2007's Bridge to Terabithia.

The First Wives Club Review

Very Good
The biggest crowd-pleaser of the year is upon us -- the powerhouse trio of Goldie Hawn, Bette Midler, and Diane Keaton foisting their womanness on us with a vengeance. Sure to revive the debate over whether films like this are "man hating," The First Wives Club is, in reality, a harmless big screen sitcom that actually manages to appeal to a large audience.

Rambling through its first 30 minutes with no real direction, The First Wives Club eventually turns into a story about three old friends who want to exact vengeance on their wayward ex-husbands. Elise (Hawn) is an aging movie star, obsessed, as most aging movie stars are, about her looks. Brenda (Midler) is a bitter ex-housewife who loves her son and bemoans her lack of funds to support him -- and hasn't changed her hair since 1969. Annie (Keaton) is basically a middle-aged version of Annie Hall, only now she has a lesbian daughter and an intrusive mother, and Woody Allen is nowhere to be seen.

Bad
Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker are lounging around their Greenwich Village townhouse reminiscing about the good old days.

"You know, Sarah Jessica," Matthew says," back in 1985 I was filming Ferris Bueller's Day Off, a classic '80s comedy that's been loved and admired by two generations and is one of the most popular, successful teen movies of all time. What were you doing back in '85?, S.J.?"

A Life Apart: Hasidism In America Review

Extraordinary
Legend has it that one rabbi, when coming to America, couldn't fit the Torah's scrolls into their new covers. "We can't modify the Torah to fit America," he said, but "we will tailor America to fit the Torah." A Life Apart: Hasidism in America is a thoughtful, compassionate documentary that illuminates the philosophy behind Hasidism's stubborn refusal to join the American mainstream.

Even among different denominations of Jewish religion, Hasidism stands alone, a religion of minorities among minorities. The invaluable quality of this film is that it neither critiques nor praises the Hasidic religion. For a subject matter as extreme and uncompromising as the religion itself, A Life Apart is wonderfully even-handed. Throughout the film, which starts and concludes with an exuberant wedding ceremony underlying the significance of ritual for the Hasidic community, we dig into the mystic philosophy behind the Hasidic refusal to participate in the contemporary world.

Dudley Do-Right Review

Terrible

The essence of Jay Ward's delightfully dolt-driven cartoons like "Rocky and Bullwinkle," "George of the Jungle" and "Dudley Do-Right" was always a resourceful, goofball mix of silliness, self-cognizance and good, dumb laughs -- a combination that might seem difficult to duplicate outside the medium of deliberately dorky animation.

But two years ago, the balance was mimicked surprisingly well in the live-action "George of the Jungle," with a perfectly cast, pratfall-proficient Brendan Fraser in the title role. But that balance is conspicuously absent as Fraser tries to fill the clumsy shoes of another Jay Ward character -- his vapid but lovable, lantern-jawed Canadian Mountie -- in the almost completely giggle-free "Dudley Do-Right."

Not only does the dilly dorkiness turn to idiocy, which in turn runs rings around the infrequent laughs, but just about the only engaging moment in the entire movie isn't even a sight gag or a goof. It's a completely serious stunt.
