Veteran Actor Sam Waterston Is Urging Tv Bosses To Give His Grace And Frankie Co-stars Jane Fonda And Lily Tomlin A Raise After Learning The Leading Ladies Were Earning The Same Wage As Himself And Martin Sheen.
The 9 to 5 actresses play the title roles in the new Netflix sitcom, which focuses on two women who form an unlikely bond after their husbands, portrayed by Sheen and Waterston, reveal they are gay and are planning to wed.
The leading ladies took aim at show bosses over the pay disparity during a press conference to promote the series last week (08May15), with Fonda sternly stating, "That doesn't make us happy."
Waterston and Sheen were quizzed about the controversy during a joint appearance on U.S. breakfast show Today on Tuesday (12May15), when Sheen admitted he was surprised to hear the news, saying, "Is that true...? I never heard that."
Asked if Fonda and Tomlin deserve to receive more money - as the stars of the show, the former The West Wing star replied, "Well, they carry the show", while Waterston added, "I think they're being jipped (cheated)! They are working twice as hard (as us)... They should get a raise."
