The Stay With Me hitmaker underwent the corrective laser operation last month (May15) at Boston's Massachusetts General Hospital, under the care of surgeon to the stars, Dr. Steven Zeitels.

Following the surgery, Smith was placed on strict vocal rest, using a special voice app to communicate while he healed.

But on Wednesday (03Jun15), the singer shared the good news that he is finally able to speak again, after visiting Dr. Zeitels for a check-up.

Smith took to Instagram.com and wrote, "I CAN SPEAK AGAIN!!!!!!!!", and also shared a photo of himself alongside his doctor, with a note of gratitude for helping him during the difficult time.

He wrote, "Completely overwhelmed. Thank you so much Doctor Zeitels for everything. You have truly saved me this past few months. Such an amazing man. You truly truly truly don't know what you got until you lose it.

"I have fallen in love with music all over again over this past month, and more than ever I feel blessed to be able to sing and do what I love every day".

The vocal trouble prompted Smith to scrap his tour of Australia and Asia and cancel a slew of concert dates in late April and early May (15), but the Grammy winner also announced on Wednesday that he is heading Down Under to make up for the axed gigs.

Smith wrote, "AUSTRALIA. From all the bad news has come some good news!! Not only am I coming back to make up for the cancelled shows but I get to play b**ody arenas!!!! So excited to sing for all of you and apologise personally for my bleeding throat".

Smith will be playing five cities in Australia in November and December (15).
