Damien Chazelle's romantic musical 'La La Land' will star Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, Lionsgate confirms.
Following recent negotiations to take the lead roles in La La Land, Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone are now confirmed to star in Damien Chazelle's follow-up to his Oscar-winning drama Whiplash.
Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone are teaming up again
La La Land is described as an old-fashioned musical set in contemporary Los Angeles and centres on a love story between a jazz pianist and an aspiring actress. Whiplash star Miles Teller was originally thought to be appearing in the film alongside Harry Potter's Emma Watson, but the casting of Gosling and Stone will come as welcome news to anyone who loved watching their sizzling on-screen chemistry in Crazy, Stupid, Love.

In La La Land, pianist Sebastian (Gosling) and actress Mia (Stone) are "drawn together by their common desire to do what they love." Lionsgate's press release detailed. "But as success mounts they are faced with decisions that begin to fray the fragile fabric of their love affair, and the dreams they worked so hard to maintain in each other threaten to rip them apart."

Writer-director Chazelle penned La La Land before production began on Whiplash, and he told Entertainment Weekly he considered making the musical before his acclaimed jazz drama.
"It's just a bigger-scope project so it was harder to get off the ground without much previous directing experience," he said. "So Whiplash went first. But as soon as Whiplash was done shooting, I knew what I wanted my next movie to be. There was never a question. It was just about hitting the ground running right after Sundance and locking up the financing."
La La Land is expected to reach cinemas on July 15, 2016.
