McGowan insists that the charges are the result of a plant concocted as part of a campaign to silence her by Harvey Weinstein.
Rose McGowan, the actor who helped spear-head the #MeToo movement aimed at exposing sexual abuse in Hollywood, has been indicted by a grand jury for felony possession of cocaine, it has been reported.
Online court records at Loudoun County, Virginia show that the 44 year old star was handed down an indictment on one count of felony possession of a controlled substance on Monday (June 11th), with a trial date to be confirmed the day after. McGowan has previously argued that the charges are cooked up, and are connected to her activism after she was one of the first women to come forward with allegations of rape against Harvey Weinstein.
McGowan’s attorney, Jose Baez, told reporters soon afterwards: “Rose steadfastly maintains her innocence. These charges would have never been brought if it weren’t for her activism as a voice for women everywhere.”

In a new interview, McGowan claims that Weinstein used agents to try and make contact with her in the wake of the #MeToo watershed.
Rose McGowan has revealed that the disgraced movie producer Harvey Weinstein “tried to contact” her in the aftermath of the sexual assault scandal that rocked Hollywood and destroyed his career last year, although she has “no idea how he got my number”.
The 44 year old former ‘Charmed’ star alleges that she received “texts [and] things like that” from Weinstein in the days and weeks following the numerous claims of serious sexual assault and misconduct from many women – led by McGowan – last October. He denies all allegations of non-consensual sex.
Speaking to the BBC’s Victoria Derbyshire programme this week, McGowan explained: “A month ago - somebody that worked with him, represented him, I don't know, on his behalf - I shook, it was like a bullet once again. It was basically just kind of this person is reaching out. And I don't even understand what the point was. I can't understand to what end. The cat's out of the bag.”

Weinstein had issued a denial of McGowan's claims that he raped her, citing e-mails by Ben Affleck and McGowan's former manager.
Rose McGowan has strongly rebutted Harvey Weinstein’s denial that he raped her, describing his attempts to discredit her claims as “pathetic” and saying that “the gaslighting will no longer be tolerated”.
On Tuesday (January 30th), the same day that McGowan launched her book tour behind her memoir ‘Brave’ – which details the alleged sexual assault that took place at the 1997 Sundance Film Festival – a lawyer representing Weinstein released e-mails from actor Ben Affleck and from McGowan’s former manager Jill Messick, who both wrote accounts of McGowan’s interactions with them at the festival that apparently clash with her allegations.
Their e-mails to Weinstein and his lawyer do not mention hearing about a non-consensual sexual act, but McGowan says that she told both of them about the assault.
The new version has claimed to be a "feminist" remake
Cult 1990s and 2000s show, Charmed, is due back on our screens offering a "feminist reboot" but this description has angered fans of the original and now one of the first Charmed trio has spoken out against the new series as well.

She does not think a 'silent protest' is going to solve anything.
Meryl Streep has defended herself over a direct criticism from Rose McGowan over the proposed idea for female actresses to wear black at the Golden Globes to protest against sexual harassment in the Hollywood industry. The problem is, there seems to have been a major misunderstanding.
Meryl Streep at Women in Film Pre-Oscar Party
Rose McGowan has been one of the most vocal celebrities out there on the subject of sexual misconduct in the film industry, completely unafraid of naming and shaming the predators and the people who have kept silent on the issue. Since she heard that women like Meryl Streep were planning a silent protest of wearing black at the Golden Globes, she has voiced her opinion once more.
Time has named the women who spoke out against sexual harassment and abuse, and who started the #MeToo movement, as Person of the Year for 2017.
Time Magazine has named its Person of the Year for 2017 as what it describes as the ‘Silence Breakers’ of the #MeToo anti-sexual harassment movement on social media.
Unveiling its annual special issue on Wednesday (December 6th) with the headline “The Silence Breakers: The Voices That Launched a Movement”, Time has acknowledged the women who revealed the pervasiveness of sexual harassment and misconduct across industries from film and music to politics.
The movement is closely associated with actress Alyssa Milano, who tweeted in early October in the wake of the Weinstein allegations: “If you've been sexually harassed or assaulted write 'me too' as a reply to this tweet.” It went on to be tweeted nearly a million times in 48 hours by people sharing their stories and denouncing sexual harassment.
McGowan will be arraigned on Thursday over drug possession charges, which she believes are linked to the Harvey Weinstein scandal.
Rose McGowan has revealed her intention to plead not guilty when she’s arraigned in court tomorrow on felony drug charges.
The 44 year old former ‘Charmed’ star is charged with possession of a controlled substance, stemming from what prosecutors claim was cocaine allegedly found among McGowan’s belongings that she left behind on a flight to Washington Dulles Airport in Virginia back on January 20th this year.
Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority says McGowan surrendered to Airports Authority Police on Tuesday, in response to a warrant that was issued way back on February 1st.

She's accused of having narcotics in belongings left at an airport.
In a rather unexpected turn of events, an arrest warrant has been issued for Rose McGowan in relation to traces of narcotics found in her abandoned belongings at an airport earlier this year. She denies any allegations of drug use, and is linking the charge with attempts to 'silence' her over her claims of sexual assault in Hollywood.

McGowan has accused Harvey Weinstein of sexual assault and has been a vocal critic of the current culture of Hollywood
Hollywood star Rose McGowan has led criticism against actor Kevin Spacey and accused him of using the revelation he now lives as a gay man to excuse allegedly making a sexual pass at an actor who was underage at the time.
Rose McGowan has been critical of Hollywood's culture of sexual abuse
Kevin Spacey was accused by Star Trek: Discovery actor Anthony Rapp of making a ‘drunken’ sexual advance towards him when he was 14 at the time and Spacey was 26.
The actress has been a staunch supporter of her fellow women speaking out against Harvey Weinstein.
Rose McGowan has been a huge supporter of the women speaking out and making allegations of sexual assault and rape against one of film's former leading moguls, Harvey Weinstein, as well as being one of the first to make an allegation of herself. Now, in her first public appearance since the scandal hit the headlines, the actress has taken aim at Hollywood during The Women's Convention of Detroit, promising that she's not going to give up in unearthing those who have acted inappropriately and saying "it's time to clean house".
Rose McGowan made a huge public appearance this week in Detroit
Addressing the audience in the room who hanged on her every word, she said: "I have been silenced for 20 years: I have been slut-shamed, I have been harassed, I've been maligned, and you know what? I'm just like you." Describing each of the women in the room as her own rose, she said that they all "have thorns, and our thorns carry justice. And our thorns carry consequence."
