Despite playing in one of the most influential rock bands of the 21st Century and encompassing all preconceptions that go along with that title, singer Roger Daltrey is clearly a big ol’ softie at heart after making one newlywed couple’s dream come true with an impromptu stage crash on their big day.

The Who singer made one couple's wedding day even more special

Bride and groom Susan and Carl Smith were celebrating their married status with a reception at the Mar Hall Hotel in Glasgow when The Who frontman, Daltrey, caught sight of the festivities.

Daltrey was staying in the same place ahead of The Who’s 50th anniversary gig at the SSE Hydro Arena and took the opportunity to get in an unscheduled practice.

After posing for pictures, Daltrey climbed up on stage and performed the hit, Can’t Explain, with Milestone, the band booked for the couple’s big day.

The performance was a pleasure for everyone concerned with both the bride and groom posting on Facebook about the fantastic addition to their reception and the booked band themselves over the moon with their new member.

Bride, Susan Smith, said: "Absolutely overwhelming! The story we will be telling for the rest of our lives. Thank you so much."

Groom Carl was equally as thrilled. He said: "Can’t believe it happened, feels so surreal, thank you so much, you made our perfect day even better, a gent and a legend."

Milestone drummer, Graeme Allan, concluded: "It was both a complete pleasure and an honour to play next to this man last night rock royalty!"
