The final movie of the late Robin Williams, Boulevard, may never make it to screens. The film scored excellent reviews at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York this year though a lack of financial backing has put an end to plans for a cinematic release.

Williams committed suicide in August, just weeks after the movie had its premiere in Manhattan. It stars the Oscar-winner as married man Nolan Mack, who struggles to come to terms with his sexuality and falling in love with a gay prostitute.

However, despite positive reviews, producers have so far failed to find a distributor to bring the movie to cinemas. It was scheduled for release several months ago but never made it to screen.

"It's really sad but it is looking impossible that Boulevard will ever see the light of day now," a source told The Mirror.

"It has proved to be a struggle for it to find the support it needs to be released. The cast have tried, as have the crew, but for many reasons it is looking very unlikely.

"There is one suggestion it isn't up to scratch and is failing on merit to find anyone to distribute it."

The latter point is probably wide of the mark. However cynical it may sound, Boulevard will most likely find a distributor to market it on being Robin Williams' final movie, though the reviews suggested it has something, anyway.

"By now, Williams is such a pro at playing forlorn souls saddled with heavy baggage, Monteil doesn't even need to show said baggage via flashback (which makes Nolan's monologue to his bedridden dad all the more unnecessary)," wrote Peter Debruge in his review for Variety. "Still, this is one of the kindest characters Williams has ever played, which makes his self-imposed turmoil - the consequence of not wanting to hurt anyone, least of all his wife - all the more tragic."
