Roberts made headlines when she came out in a Facebook post last December, revealing that she had been dating partner Amber Laign for ten years. In her post, she reflected upon her challenging year during which she'd had to have a bone marrow transplant during her battle with myelodysplastic syndrome. "I am grateful for my sister, Sally-Ann, for being my donor and giving me the gift of life. I am grateful for my entire family, my long time girlfriend, Amber, and friends as we prepare to celebrate a glorious new year together," she wrote.

Robin Roberts has endured a 2013 fraught with some major health concerns, managing to reach the end of the year even when the odds seemed stacked so high against her. In an end of year FaceBook post reflecting on the turbulent last twelve months, Roberts counted her blessings and thanked those who had helped her reach the end of 2013, included her girlfriend of nearly 10 years.

The FaceBook post was the first public acknowledgement from Roberts that she is in fact a homosexual, as she thanked her "entire family, my long time girlfriend, Amber, and friends" in the post. Robin and Amber Laign have managed to keep their relation a secret for almost a decade, but the FaceBook post was the first time Roberts has publicly revealed she is a lesbian and that she is in a longtime relationship. The past few years have been particularly though for Roberts too, but the pair have managed to hold together despite the various troubles they have encountered.

Robin Roberts, the host of Good Morning America, who left the show last year to battle a life-threatening illness, is now publishing a memoir, according to a report by Reuters. Roberts was diagnosed with MDS last year, a rare blood and bone disorder, but she has overcome her diagnosis and announced her upcoming return to GMA. The book will recount her journey and the lessons she has learned along the way.

Hachette Book Group, the memoir's publisher, announced the news in a statement on Wednesday. "In her new memoir, Roberts will tell the amazing story of her courageous battle against a life-threatening illness, the life lessons she continues to learn, and her inspiring return to the GMA anchor desk," the publishers said.

In her own statement, Roberts also expressed her thoughts and gratitude: “I am humbled that many have an interest, and draw strength from my on-going journey. I’m grateful for the prayers and well wishes of so many people."

Five months after battling back and overcoming a rare blood disorder, TV host Robin Roberts received a huge welcoming return to her slot on ABC’s Good Morning America. "I have been waiting 174 days to say this: 'Good Morning America' " the delighted star said on her first morning back in front of the cameras.

Roberts received a standing ovation as she returned to the studio, and justly so. Her condition meant that she had to undergo a bone-marrow transplant in order to treat it, one of the more grizzly procedures that you can go through, and her courage in overcoming the physical and mental challenges of it is to be commended. Billed as a special around Roberts, Good Morning America saw the host receive a welcome back message from President Barack and First Lady Michaelle Obama. She’s interviewing the pair in a few days."Good morning America and welcome back Robin," Obama said. "Robin," Michelle Obama added, "we just want you to know that the whole Obama family — we've been thinking about you and praying for you and rooting for you every step of the way."

Roberts herself seemed utterly thrilled to be back. "I keep pinching myself and I realize this is real. This is actually happening, and I don't have my froggy slippers on, or do I?" she said. "Faith, family and friends have brought me to this moment and I am so full of gratitude. There are so many people I want to thank throughout the morning, my doctors and nurses and family and colleagues and people who have sat in this chair and those who have blazed the trail before me.” She continued  "As my mother said, we all have something and everyone's story has purpose and meaning and value and I share this morning, this day of celebration with everyone."

Robin Roberts returned to GMA this morning, and received a special welcome from none other than President Barack Obama. Roberts was forced to take a hiatus from the show, when she was diagnosed with MDS (myelodysplastic syndrome), a bone marrow disorder. After receiving hospital treatment and gradually phasing herself back to work, Roberts appeared on Good Morning America this morning, wearing a bright blue dress and sporting a huge smile.

A taped message from President Barack Obama and the First Lady, Michelle Obama, revealed the President telling Robin that he was happy to see that she was “back doing what you do best.” Michelle added that she was “looking forward” to an interview that she had scheduled with Roberts in a few days. Robin was a jovial mood and joked that her hair – which is still cropped very short as a result of her treatment – had “little bangs,” a joking reference to Michelle Obama’s comments about her own hairdo, which she referred to as “mid-life crisis” bangs.

Roberts seemed in good spirits throughout her appearance on the show, though her colleagues were careful to heed the medics advice and still treat her with kid gloves. Robin’s immune system is still delicate and her fellow presenters refrained from any heavy duty hugging to welcome her back onto the show.

Robin Roberts has announced that she intends on returning to Good Morning America some time in February.

The much-loved host has been absent from the show whilst she underwent serious and intense hospital treatment, in order to recover from MDS, a serious and rare blood disorder. After receiving a bone marrow transplant, Roberts has been in recovery, as her immune system would have been too weak for her to return to work.

Kicking off this morning’s show, though USA Today report that Roberts seemed excited to tentatively announce her return. She told viewers that she had a date in mind that was very special to her (some time in February) but added that she was still at the mercy of her doctors’ instructions. However, she was happy to reassure her fans that she was making good progress in terms of recovery. “I'm so happy to be sharing this news with everybody: I met with my doctors last week. My blood count continues to improve. My beloved sister, Sally-Ann, my donor. Her cells continue to make themselves at home in my body. The big news is that my last bone marrow aspiration — by the way, ouch, I've lost count how many I've had —- but the last bone marrow test showed no abnormalities. ... Praise God!”

For 'Good Morning America' anchor Robin Roberts there is finally light at the end of the tunnel as she endures a tough battle with a rare blood disorder.

Roberts was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome and was forced to go into hospital to receive a bone marrow transplant. After 30 days in hospital getting over the painful procedure, Roberts has now finally been allowed to head home.

In a frank and honest blog, Roberts insisted that there were still tough times to come. "I am considered 21 days old. That's how long it has been since my transplant. Remember when you brought your baby home for the first time? Your precious bundle didn't leave the house much and you were careful that anyone who came in contact with your child was healthy" she explained. She did add relief that she was back home though, stating "I will still be resting away from GMA until I'm given the all clear, but sleeping in my own bed again feels like a big victory. My doctors will be monitoring me closely and I will still be at the hospital regularly to make sure we're on the right track. I cannot thank my amazing medical team enough. I have a great deal of respect and admiration for how they treat all their patients with such passion and compassion."

Robin Roberts has begun her journey down the road to recovery after going under the knife following her bone marrow transplant on Thursday (September 20, 2012). The whole procedure lasted a mere five minutes and was caught on film for Good Morning America, with her co-anchor Diane Sawyer and weatherman Sam Champion on hand to watch and give support. Champion said after the procedure, "I don't think I will ever forget the power and love that was in that room.”

Roberts' procedure saw her being injected slowly with millions of stem cells harvested from her sister, Sally-Ann, in order to treat her MDS, a rare blood disorder Roberts has had since birth. Family and friends, as well as co-workers surrounded her as the procedure was undertaken, with the song Ain’t No Mountain High Enough and some of her other favourites being played as the operation took place.

The co-anchor’s oncologist, Dr. Gail Roboz, said on Good Morning America earlier today that the next 7-10 days will be crucial for Roberts as they watch to see the stem cells "find a home." Roboz said that she is in an "in between zone" at the time being, whilst the blood will be checked several times a day to look for the white blood cell count to rise.

Robin Roberts broadcasted a video earlier today from hospital thanking fans for their support just before she undergoes life-saving surgery.

The 'Good Morning America' anchor has been in a hospital in New York for 11 days while being treated with chemotherapy in preparation for a bone marrow transplant, the donor being her sister Sally-Ann Roberts. The 51-year-old was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) earlier in the year; a disease in which the bone marrow is unable to produce enough healthy blood cells. The disease apparently might have been caused by the chemo she had in 2007 to treat her breast cancer. She addressed a camera looking extremely thin and off-colour wearing some loose clothes and told the viewers on her GMA blog: 'Thoughts are so powerful. You've got to change the way you think in order to change the way you feel.' She ended the clip with gratitude towards her fans: 'I feel the love and I thank you for it. Thank you.'

She had also written on her blog a rather heart-warmingly positive message some days ago about preparing for her hospital stay. 'Last Sunday to lift my spirits I threw a little party at my apartment for my "GMA" family', she wrote. 'The next morning I walked through the hospital doors, with my guardian angels -- mom & dad -- back together and blazing a trail ahead of me.'
