The Sting star hit headlines early on Tuesday (08Sep15) when Republican presidential candidate Trump shared a quote from the movie veteran on Twitter.com and thanked Redford for speaking positively about his run for the White House.

The businessman tweeted the comments, "I'm glad (Trump is) in there because him being the way he is, and saying what he says the way he says it, I think shakes things up and I think that's very needed. Because on the other side it's so bland, it's so boring, it's so empty."

The businessman-turned-politician added, "Wow! Such nice words from Robert Redford on my running for President. Thank you, Robert."

However, Redford's spokesperson has moved quickly to clear up any confusion about an endorsement, claiming the actor simply "enjoys" Trump's outspoken character, telling The Hollywood Reporter, "He enjoys him, but not for president."

In fact, Redford's remarks were made during a recent interview with legendary broadcaster Larry King, during which the longtime Democrat actually poked fun at Trump, who famously alleged many Mexican immigrants in the U.S. were "rapists" who brought crime and drugs to America when he announced his political run in June (15).

Redford said, "He's got such a big foot in his mouth I'm not sure you could get it out. But on the other hand, I'm glad he's in there..."

The actor isn't the only celebrity amused by Trump's campaign - Smashing Pumpkins rocker Billy Corgan recently admitted he is impressed by the way the real estate mogul and reality TV star has shaken up the election coverage.

He said, "What I think is cool is Trump's running chaos theory. He's forcing a lot of things out in the open, so they can't control this... It's like the music business, everybody gets controlled, and somebody comes along who f**ks it all up. I think it's good that he's f**king it up, because whether or not he's the guy, obviously the political class doesn't want him there. It'll open it up to a bigger dialogue... People are engaged."
