Robert Pattinson wishes he had a ''bigger ego''.

The 'Twilight' actor - who became a tween sensation overnight as vampire Edward Cullen - admitted he always felt like he needed to prove himself as a person and as a film star, which he thinks is the reason he is so ''grounded'', but could have helped him deal with things that happened around him, such as his acrimonious split from former co-star Kristen Stewart.

He said: ''I've always had the feeling I need to prove myself: as an actor, a star, a person. That might be how I've managed to keep my feet on the ground. Although I've often wished I had a bigger ego - maybe it would have helped me cope with all the things around me.''

Meanwhile, when the 29-year-old heartthrob - who is engaged to singer FKA Twigs - was asked if when he has children, would they struggle growing up in the spotlight and Robert was sure he will have offspring who are ''totally cool and confident'' and will think he is ''a weird crotchety man''.

The 'Life' actor told Germany's Jolie magazine: ''I don't think so. I'm sure I'll have a child that's totally cool and confident. He or she will probably look at me every day and think to themselves: 'Why is this guy such a weird, crotchety man?'''
