After more than twelve years, Meryl Streep and Robert De Niro will rekindle the on-screen partnership in The Good House, the Ann Leary novel that has its right recently acquired by FilmNation, Deadline report. Michael Cunningham is set to adapt the book.

Meryl StreepStreep will be back with Di Niro

Streep will play Hildy Good, a successful real-estate broker who lives in a small town on Boston’s North Shore. She’s also a raging alcoholic – her parents held an intervention for her a year before the book begins. Good tries to reform an old relationship with Frank Getchell, a straight-talking Yankee who attempts to straighten out her life. "It is undeniable the chemistry Meryl and Bob will offer us as they bring these characters to life," says Karen Lunder, executive vice president of production for FilmNation.

The book, now a New York Times best seller, was only released as recently as early January 2013, making it one of the quicker page-to-film projects to get the go ahead. The speed at which a film version was decided upon probably has something to do with the fine reviews the novel garnered.

Robert de NiroWill di Niro and Streep form an Oscar winning partnership?

The Academy Award-winning partnership of Streep and Robert De Niro will provide a nostalgia hit for films fans and Oscar panel members alike. They shared a screen in the five-time Oscar winning drama, The Deer Hunter in 1978, before 1984’s Falling in Love. Their last film together was the 1996 American drama, Marvin's Room, for which Streep bagged a Golden Globe.
