Rob Lowe still enjoys hanging out with Charlie Sheen even though they lead different lifestyles.

The 'Parks and Recreation' star stopped drinking alcohol after checking into rehab 24 years ago, but respects the 'Anger Management' star, who previously admitted he used crack cocaine for 28 years and still smokes marijuana, for doing what he likes.

The 50-year-old actor told the July issue of Cigar Aficionado magazine: ''I love him, even though he hates sobriety. There's no funnier, smarter, more enjoyable raconteur than Charlie . . . I admire him living the life of his choosing.''

Rob also still hangs out with his other ''Brat Pack'' friend Robert Downey Jr., who has been drug free since 2003, but admits they rarely attend Hollywood parties.

He said: ''[Robert] was always in the dead center of . . . the scene. Now he commutes from a safe distance and does it in doses . . . we see each other a bunch but . . . we're not the last ones to leave a party anymore.''

The 'Behind the Candelabra' star credits cigars and golf for helping him to avoid relapsing.

He said: ''When I got sober, that was 1990. One of the things you have to do when you stop [drinking] is you have to find other ways to have fun.

''You're looking for new ways to bond, to be social, to be out amongst people. For me, in the early days, that meant playing golf and smoking cigars.''
