Rita Ora has slammed rumours that she was the “Becky with the good hair” mentioned on Beyonce’s Lemonade album, calling the accusations ‘rude and disrespectful’. The 25-year-old was formerly a protégé of Beyonce's husband Jay Z and signed to his Roc Nation records, but she left the label earlier this year after a dispute.

In an interview with Vanity Fair Ora spoke about the “Not Becky” pin she wore at this year’s Met Ball after-party, shortly after the release of Lemonade. “That [pin] was a present from Katy Perry. Maybe I was the only one seen wearing it, but there were others,” Ora explained.

Speaking about the rumours that she was “Becky”, the British singer continued: “As for the rest of it, I’m oblivious, I’m just not the gossip queen. I find it incredibly rude and disrespectful to women in general [when] we get accused of something that’s basically against the important part—the music.”

Earlier this year Ora had a public split from Jay’s record label Roc Nation, but the singer insists she still admires the rapper and music mogul. “First and foremost, Jay Z is my inspiration and one of my idols—lyrically, musically, business-wise,” she said. “I still look up to him and his wife every day. Beyoncé was one of my biggest idols growing up.”

Ora also had a high profile romance with Calvin Harris and their split reportedly led to the DJ banning her from performing ‘I Will Never Let You Down,’ the song he wrote and produced for her. “He’s very talented. . . . I have had a few dramas, haven’t I?” Ora said.

“I think in general I’ve learned my lesson to not talk about relationships and gossip because I’ve been at the center of it a few times and it’s not worth it. And I have been heartbroken, just once,” she added. “Love is so great, but it also can be the most dangerous thing on planet earth. People do crazy things when it comes to jealousy and love.”
