The first trailer for Ricky Gervais’ spin-off movie from ‘The Office’, in which he re-adopts his iconic David Brent character for the first time in over a decade, has been released.

The 54 year old himself tweeted the short trailer for David Brent: Life on the Road on Thursday morning (April 7th), for the film that he’s both written and directed as well as starred in. Immediately as he presents himself, a worker at the new firm Lavichem can be heard muttering in exasperation “Oh God, it’s him again”.

In a one-on-one segment with the camera, Brent introduces himself as a newly re-invented “singer-songwriter” and as well as “a rep” for a Slough-based cleaning products distributor.

The teaser also details one of Brent’s new songs, which he describes as: “It’s about rock’n’roll, but it’s a metaphor for sex”. Then, of course, he proceeds to sing it in front of two embarrassed female colleagues: “I’m gonna roll you over/And rock you stupid.”

The 90-second trailer suggests that the film has been shot in the same ‘mockumentary’ style as ‘The Office’ was all those years ago.

Back in the original series, first broadcast in 2001 and set at paper merchants Wernham Hogg, Gervais’ character was revealed as a one-time singer-songwriter who had fronted a band called Foregone Conclusion (once supported by a little-known Scottish band called Texas).

In the new movie, he apparently brings together a group of session musicians and a hugely expensive tour manager to embark on a self-financed tour around Britain, in the hope of rekindling his dreams of rock stardom.

Earlier this year, it was revealed that the BBC Films production David Brent: Life on the Road will be released in the UK on August 19th.
