Wilson played the grouchy pensioner in six seasons of the hit sitcom from 1990 to 2000, as well as a number of Christmas specials, and he is now returning to his most famous character 15 years on.

The actor is to portray Meldrew in a one-man play by David Renwick, the writer behind the TV show, but the production will be for one night only.

He says, "I am bringing Victor back for a night. I am going to do 20 minutes of Victor because the guy who wrote One Foot In The Grave wrote an episode of Victor by himself and it was a brilliant episode."

The play will be staged at The Crucible theatre in Sheffield, England on 23 October (15).
