Reese Witherspoon told a police officer he would appear in the national news if he arrested her.

The Oscar-winning actress was arrested in Atlanta, Georgia for disorderly conduct in the early hours of Friday morning (19.04.13) after her husband, Jim Toth, 42, was pulled over for suspected drink driving, but the 37-year-old star reportedly tried used her fame to get of the situation.

Reese was quoted in the Georgia Police Incident report as saying: ''Do you know my name? You're about to find out who I am... You're about to be on national news.''

After making a public appearance on the red carpet for the premiere of her film 'Mud', the newly-brunette actress released a public apology, but added she couldn't comment on the incident for legal reasons.

She said: ''I clearly had one drink too many and I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said. It was definitely a scary situation and I was frightened for my husband, but that is no excuse.

''I was disrespectful to the officer who was just doing his job. The words I used that night definitely do not reflect who I am. I have nothing but respect for the police and I'm very sorry for my behaviour.''

The couple were later released on bail and a court date was set for Monday (22.04.13).
