Fact: Russian punk act Pussy Riot have addressed the European refugee crisis in their latest song, Refugee In, and video, which was shot at artist Banksy's Dismaland Bemusement Park in England in September (15). The all-girl group was among the bands who performed at the pop-up art installation.
Fact: Pussy Riot stars Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Maria Alekhina are to host an interactive panel discussion at this year's (14) Riot Fest 10th anniversary event in Chicago, Illinois in September (14). The Russian rockers will join The Cure, the National, the Flaming Lips, Wu-Tang Clan, Weezer, Jane's Addiction, Patti Smith, Slayer, Billy Bragg and Paul Weller on the bill.
Fact: Former LCD Soundsystem star James Murphy teamed up with acclaimed hip-hop musician Ahmir 'questlove' Thompson on Friday (07Feb14) to host a special dinner in honour of freed Pussy Riot rockers Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Maria Alyokhina. The punk stars have been in the U.S. to raise the profile of their campaign for prison reform following their release from a Russian detention centre in December (13). They served just under two years behind bars on controversial hooliganism charges after performing a protest song taking aim at Russian president Vladimir Putin in 2012.
