Paisley Park, the home and studio complex belonging to the late pop superstar Prince, is to open for public guided tours from October, according to the trust company overseeing his estate.

Bremer Trust announced on Wednesday (August 24th) that the sprawling 65,000-square-foot property in the Minneapolis suburb of Chanhassen will be open to the public from October 6th, and will be managed by the company that runs similar tours of Elvis Presley’s Graceland.

“Opening Paisley Park is something that Prince always wanted to do and was actively working on,” said his sister, Tyka Nelson, in the statement. “Only a few hundred people have had the rare opportunity to tour the estate during his lifetime. Now, fans from around the world will be able to experience Prince’s world for the first time as we open the doors to this incredible place.”

Reports emerged a few months ago that the estate, where Prince died in April from an accidental overdose of the painkiller Fentanyl at the age of 57.

According to a business plan, Graceland Holdings, which oversees 600,000 visitors per year to Elvis’s home in Memphis, Tennessee since it opened to the public, is providing start-up costs and will be operating the tours when they begin.

Tours will include a look at the studios where Prince recorded, and the soundstage he used for tour rehearsals and exclusive private concerts. According to the statement from Bremer, it will also take in “iconic concert wardrobe, awards, musical instruments, artwork, rare music and video recordings, concert memorabilia, automobiles and motorcycles”.

The plan requires the approval of the city, but a statement from Mayor Denny Laufenburger indicates that the application is being regarded favourably. “Chanhassen will be pleased to demonstrate to the thousands of visitors to Paisley Park the same hospitality and respect that Prince enjoyed during his time in Chanhassen,” he said.

Tickets go on sale, online only, from tomorrow (Friday August 26th) at 2pm CDT.
