The famously social-media-shy Prince has just taken a giant leap into the 21st century, by setting up an Instagram account. The verified account called ‘Princestagram’, popped up just three days ago and is already one of the most bizarre and entering Instagrams we’ve seen in a while.

Prince began his Instagram adventure on Friday, posting a pic of himself titled, ‘PURPLE SILHOUETTE’. He’s since gone on to share many onstage shots, fan art, retro images as well as some very close-up photos. There's also been a video, which may be a sneaky clip of new material.

He’s also had a shot a creating memes, mostly based on comedian Dave Chappelle’s infamous portrayal of him as a pancake-making, basketball-loving oddball. One meme shows the singer in a red suit posing with the caption ‘how light skinned dudes roll dice’.

Another pictures him in black and white with one hand in front of his face and the words, ‘how light skinned dudes wipe their nose’. Neither of these have broken the internet yet. He’s also been experimenting with some photo effects, including collages and a variety of filters.

This isn't the first time Prince has tried social media. He’s previously had a Facebook account, a twitter and even a Youtube channel, but none of them lasted. It will be interesting to see how long this latest social media experiment lasts, but since he’s up to 88 posts already chances are he’ll get bored sooner rather than later.

Last month he released his 38th studio album, HITnRUN phase one exclusively on Jay-Z’s Tidal service, before making it available on CD a week later. The singer, who also hates putting music online, seems to have found a home on Tidal after shunning services such as Spotify. But last week he pulled out of Jay-Z’s star studded Tidal: X 10/20 concert in New York, giving no explanation as to why he changed his mind.
