Fact: British pop wannabe Gareth Gates was yesterday (12APR06) dropped by his record label Sony BMG after failing to produce a chart hit in nearly three years. The 21-year-old shot to fame after finishing as runner-up on UK talent show Pop Idol in 2002.

Fact: <p>An apple packer from Grabouw became the third SOUTH AFRICAN IDOL on Sunday night (27NOV05) when KARIN KORTJE claimed the top prize in the TV talent contest spin-off of Pop Idol and American Idol. Kortje won a recording contract with Sony/BMG. </p>
