It’s been announced pop star Pixie Lott is to jump over the stage barrier and get in front of the cameras after it was revealed by the BBC that she’s to join the cast of BBC1 drama Inspector George Gently.

Lott is going to play opposite main actor Martin Shaw in the detective drama set in 1969. She will begin filming in Northumberland in April for her part and, according to The Sun, seems pretty eager to get going on it. “I love the fact that Inspector George Gently is set in the Sixties” she told the paper. “It will be great to be filming in the North-East and getting to play a role that gives me a real feel for the period.”

According to the BBC, the main producer of the show was impressed by Pixie Lott's performance in a promotional film for the NHS, in which she featured alongside Rowan Atkinson back in February. Lott isn’t a complete novice when it comes to acting, but it would be fair to say her experience is pretty limited. The 22 year-old made her debut in front of the cameras in 2010 movie Fred: The Movie, before appearing herself in 2012 in the series finale Sadie J. This promises to be quite the step up.
