The lawyer for Phil Spector's wife finds his divorce filing "heartbreakingly bizarre" because Rachelle was devoted to him.
It was revealed over the weekend (23-24Apr16) that the music mogul had filed for divorce from Rachelle, his wife of almost ten years, while he is serving a jail sentence at California Health Care Facility in Stockton for killing actress Lana Clarkson in 2003.
In his legal documents, which he filed on 18 March (16), Spector claims Rachelle had been spending all his money on extravagant purchases including luxury cars, an airplane, plastic surgery and jewellery.
However, Rachelle's attorney Aaron Abramowitz informed the Associated Press she was still devoted to Spector, she didn't use the cash for herself and used it to pay for his medical care while he is in prison.
"This whole situation is heartbreakingly bizarre," Abramowitz wrote. "It is regrettable that Mr. Spector has failed to recognize the efforts made by Rachelle in spending tens of thousands of dollars on his medical and dental costs while incarcerated."
He adds Rachelle obtained a pilots licence to make visiting her husband easier.
The 75-year-old is housed in a facility which provides medical and mental health care to inmates with severe and chronic issues.
Spector met his third wife Rachelle, 35, in 2003 shortly after he was arrested for shooting Clarkson in her California home, and they married in 2006.
He was convicted in 2009 and sentenced to 19 years.
