Rollercoaster Tycoon was a massive hit when the first in the series was released many years ago. The came Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 which was a disappointment to say the least, everyone wanted 3D graphics and new gameplay, but we got the same again with a few new rides. Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 was also a bit of a disappointment, the new 3d graphics were great but the game play failed to impress. Peeps had minds of their own and would boycott rides for no explainable reason and many other bugs started to show their ugly heads. Does Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 Soaked under deliver or does it put all the wrongs right again? Simple answer is yes the gameplay issues are sorted out and Soaked adds loads of new content.

Soaked is primarily a water park add on for Rollercoaster Tycoon 3. Everything you can imagine have been covered here, from water slides to wave pools to Sea World type attractions to new coasters to waterfalls and Jacuzzis. There are also some nice additions such as interactive water you can use your cursor to swirl up the water in the swimming pools to create a whirlpool in which your peeps will spin around and around. There is also an addition to the fireworks, now you can mix in light and water shows to create fantastic visuals for all your peeps.

The scenario mode is very much the same as it was in Rollercoaster Tycoon 3. When you start the game there are three scenarios available. Each scenario has three targets bronze, sliver and gold.

Hitting the bronze targets will be fairly easy, and once the bronze target has been hit, you will unlock another level. If you decide to stick with a scenario and go for the gold pass you will have hundreds of possibilities at your finger tips. As you play more you will improve also, this is partly down to the skill of building a park and it's partly down to the slightly complex interface. The problem is the number of menus and the size of the buttons within each menu. It is something you will eventually get used to and people who have played RCT 3 will probably be quite used to the system by now, but new uses will certainly have times when they press a different button to the one they intended which is extremely frustrating.

The gameplay itself has been greatly improved and the main point of contention in RCT 3 was the random behaviour of the peeps. You could build a ride, perfectly normal ride that should be very popular and find no one would use it. Even when you reduced the price to free the peeps would still stay away. Other times rides would be very busy and with in a matter of minutes the ride would be empty, for no explainable reason what so ever. This didn't just make the game frustrating it made it unplayable. Now this erratic behaviour has been sorted out, and if you ride is empty there is something wrong with it, be it unsafe, too expansive, too frightening or just too boring etc. To find out what the problem is, simply hover over a few peeps that have “rejected” the ride and you will have a good idea of the problem. Once you get into the game you will become immersed in your own theme park world, there is so much to do and you can fine tune anything you like till your hearts content. It's the kind of game that could take your life away for a considerable amount of time.

Graphically things have improved also the stuff that was already in RTC 3 is pretty much as it was it's the water that really makes everything look that much better than before. The water effects are brilliant and you can interact with the water too, which is a really nice idea. Use your cursor to wash the water around to create waves and whirlpools in the swimming pools. There is also a nice effect if you take the camera in too close water will splash against the lens. Some problems do occur though, specifically peeps crash into each other and some of the scenery now and again.

Sound wise the effects are very good, such as the background noise of peeps talking, screaming and shouting. The music is not particularly suitable or good listening. Sometimes it is ok, but most of the time you will find the music very new age hippy which doesn't seem to fit with a theme park or water park for that matter, its not Glastonbury, mind, new age hippy music is a rare thing at Glastonbury now a days anyway.

Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 Soaked is one of the best expansion packs for any game I've played. It offers so much more than the original it is almost worthy of the new game in itself. The fact that the gameplay bugs have been sorted is a real bonus too; it actually makes the game playable now. If you own RCT 3 get yourself a copy, now. Anyone put off by reviews of RTC 3 can now be assured with Soaked it's transformed into a fantastic game.
