Justin Lin Jeremy Renner Vin Diesel Dwayne Johnson Paul Walker Matt Damon

Justin Lin has been signed on to direct the next instalment of the Bourne franchise, which will see Jeremy Renner return as the star of the show. Filming for the fifth Bourne film is due to begin next year, with the movie expected to arrive in cinemas in summer 2015.

Lin, who masterminded the Fast and Furious franchise - which has become one of the most successful film series in history - was announced as the director of the next Bourne film via Deadline, who also revealed that Renner will be returning as Aaron Cross. The 2015 release is being written by Invictus and Sherlock Holmes writer, Anthony Peckham.

The fifth Bourne film will be Lin's first project since stepping down as the head of the Fast and Furious franchise - which grossed over $1 billion from the last three films alone - in place of James Wan. Universal have enlisted the help of Lin to hopefully propel the Bourne series to similar heights enjoyed by F&F.

Nolan and Abigail are hoping to welcome their unborn baby daughter into the world in just a few weeks, but things take a terrifying turn when the child is born five weeks prematurely. Abigail is rushed to hospital just as New Orleans becomes embroiled in a menacing looking storm that gets gradually worse as the hours go by. As Hurricane Katrina causes the nearby levee to break, the streets are flooded and the entire hospital is forced to be evacuated. However, that means that some people cannot be moved from the building if their survival relies solely on non-portable machines and so Nolan insists on staying in the unit where his fragile baby daughter is hooked up to a ventilator. Soon, though, the emergency battery begins to die down and with no-one around to change it and a severe power cut underway, he is forced to find a generator and do everything within his power to save his child - even if that means risking his own life.

What Is It About Fast & Furious Six That Makes Us See It Again And Again?

Dwayne Johnson Vin Diesel Paul Walker Ludacris Tyrese Gibson Jordana Brewster

Throughout the surprisingly long life of Fast & Furious, we’ve come to think of the franchise as something of a joke. Macho men and beautiful women revving up engines and performing absurd stunts, with barely a thread of plot to hold the whole thing together. And yet, not only is Fast & Furious still around, but the sixth installment in the series is geared up to take the weekend box office charts by a landslide. The film grossed over $38 million domestically on Friday and is projected to cash in at $120 million by the end of the holiday weekend (according to USA Today) and it miraculously earned the approval of 75% of critics and 95% of fans on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. Pardon us while we stop and wonder: how on earth did this happen?

Well, there’s obviously the very enticing presence of both Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel – both of whom look like your stereotypical tough guys, but turn out to be surprisingly relatable and have really good comedic pacing. Then there are of course the members of the supporting cast – Paul Walker, Ludacris, Tyrese Gibson and Jordana Brewster – who’s clever and well-timed quips make this highly watchable. Then there are, of course, the machines, the explosions, your typical action flick fodder, which this franchise takes very seriously. But all that just makes for an entertaining, easily forgettable movie, perhaps one sequel. What Fast did and what’s helped the franchise not only live on, but become bigger and better, with the sixth installment being the best yet, where normally a franchise would be on its last leg, was to stop taking itself seriously. Somewhere around Fast Five the producers realized the ridiculousness of the whole premise and, instead of trying to disguise it, decided to just go for the full monty (we presume that’s how it was mentioned in meetings.)

Fast And Furious 6 Is Released Today, And It Might Be The Best One Yet!

Vin Diesel Paul Walker Dwayne Johnson Ludacris

Fast and Furious 6 gets it's U.S. release today and whilst many are scratching their heads at how the franchise ever managed to get to six films, critics and audiences alike are in agreement with each other that the big wigs behind the franchise have left the best film until last (Though there's probably going to be a seventh).

With original stars Vin Diesel and Paul Walker joined by the likes of franchise regulars DWAYNE 'THE ROCK' JOHNSON and Ludacris (as Chris 'Ludacris' Bridges), the latest release is still very much a Fast & Furious film, but don't let that put you off just yet. With all the usual motoring chaos and carnage to expect, only this time round with a little added spice, the film is everything you could from a F&F movie, with added va-va-voom.

Vehicle 19 Review

Good

Paul Walker remains behind the steering wheel, but this action thriller has a whiff of the arthouse about it, simply by being set in South Africa. The plot is as preposterous as Taken, which it resembles in many ways. But there is some guilty pleasure to be had in the way events unfurl for this particular American abroad. And the big climax is satisfyingly ridiculous.

It opens at the Johannesburg airport, where the recently paroled Michael (Walker) arrives on the way to visit his ex Angelica (Haidarian). But the rental agency gives him the wrong car, and when he gets stuck in a traffic jam he starts exploring it, discovering first a phone, then a gun and then a bound-and-gagged women behind the back seat. She turns out to be Rachel (McLean), a kidnapped lawyer caught between dirty cops and even dirtier politicians. And as everyone begins to chase Michael around the city, he gets deeper and deeper into the mess.

Michael is on edge from the beginning, exhausted after the gruelling flight and distracted by thoughts of Angelica. And we soon learn that he has broken parole to leave America, risking everything for this reunion with her. The script reveals its secrets along the way, although the main thing we realise is that writer-director Dewil is doing whatever he wants, sending Michael on a nightmarish odyssey that's more than a little contrived. And Walker is fine in the role of a rather uncomplicated guy who knows how to deal with these kinds of shady situations.

Michael Woods is eager to get his life back on track; leave behind his criminal past and reunite with his estranged girlfriend to patch up a tempestuous relationship. He breaks parole in order to go and see her but, due to a mix up with a car rental company, he is landed with a minivan rather than what he asked for: a rather more practical Sedan. However, he decides he'll go with it anyway unaware of the shock that would lie in store. When he discovers a phone with a new text message in the front of the vehicle, he is drawn to a silenced handgun obviously meant for someone else. Not only that, but when he pulls back the back seat, he finds a gagged and bound female hostage who informs him that was going to be killed for her inside knowledge of the corrupt local police. The pair embark on a perilous cat and mouse chase hotly pursued by the feds who he needs avoid anyway for his own reasons.

Video Interview with Paul Walker & Jordana Brewster

Paul Walker and Jordana Brewster are interviewed in London about the latest addition to the 'Fast' franchise 'Fast & Furious 6'. They talk about their feelings on the numerous reprisals of the movie, the extravagant scale of the film and on and offscreen friendships.

On making a new sequel, Paul admits his first thoughts were, 'Really? It was a long time ago we made the first one, you really think they want us still doing this?' 'To me it's just mindblowing, and now all this talk about announcing another one before this one's even been released, that's bold as all hell', he continues. Jordana comments on just how big they've made the movie this time. 'There's a tank that literally flies out of a truck that then pummels over cars', she says. 'Someone just thought up what could be the most fun thing to shoot and then made it happen which is pretty crazy.' Paul says he has a 'healthy' competitive relationship with co-star Vin Diesel. 'I get frustrated at times and I want to tell him to go kick rocks and he'll laugh at me. and we'll have our. make-up session', he says. 'What we've got going on in real life is parallel to onscreen.'

Dom, Brian and Mia may be living it up with $100 million dollars in their back pockets, but living the fast life hasn't been entirely beneficial as a hole in the lives has been left by the fact that they cannot return home after the trouble they got in with the law. When DSS agent Luke Hobbs approaches Dom to ask for his help nabbing a gang of highly-trained drivers who are leaving a trail of destruction everywhere they go, Dom is less than tempted by the offer. However, when Hobbs shows him a week old photograph of Dom's former love Letty who he thought was dead, he takes on the job with his friends, determined to find out the truth even if it's the last thing he wants to hear. In return for the capture of this gang of road miscreants, the trio are offered a full pardon for their own crimes. However, with the stakes this high, survival becomes the most sought after prize for their latest challenge.

Dominic, Brian and Mia maybe $100 million richer following their daring heist at the expense of crime lord Hernan Reyes in Rio de Janeiro, but their lives have been left somewhat ruptured by the fact that they cannot return home despite DSS agent Luke Hobbs letting them go after they saved his life. However, they are given a chance to be pardoned in full when Hobbs enlists them and their team to help him take down a group of deadly mercenary drivers with their own formidable street racing skills. Things aren't as simple as that though, especially when Dom discovers that his former love Letty who he believed to be dead makes a return as the brutal and self-serving assistant of the criminal kingpin behind the organisation. Will the Fast and Furious team succeed in the dangerous mission with their lives and their chance to go home hanging in the balance?

Following the events of the Fast franchise's fifth instalment 'Fast Five', our favourite street racers are back with the upcoming 'Fast & Furious 6'. Takers Review

Bad
Loud and very violent (within the limits of a PG-13 rating), this supposedly gritty thriller strains so hard to be sleek and cool that it completely forgets to create believable characters or situations.

Cops Jack and Eddie (Dillon and Hernandez) are on the trail of a fiendishly efficient band of bank robbers made up of brainy, brawny Gordon (Elba) and his well-dressed goons (Brown, Walker, Christensen and Ealy). When former gang member Ghost (Harris) is released from prison, he presents them with a "once-in-a-lifetime job". But they only have five days to prepare, which is less than they're used to. Something seems fishy, but they go ahead with the heist. And sure enough, not only are the cops closing in, but Ghost may betray them.

Fast & Furious Review

Bad
Doing its best to further erase whatever pleasant memories (guilty or no) people may still have had from the 2001 original, Fast & Furious reunites The Fast and the Furious cast with much ballyhoo, only to kill one of them off in no time flat and leave viewers fairly unconcerned with what happens to the rest of them. Given that this third sequel is intent on treating the events of the origin film as some sort of holy text, this is probably not the effect that the filmmakers were going for.

For the record, Rob Cohen's The Fast and the Furious -- which took the name from a 1955 Roger Corman racing flick, and updated the master's exploitation bent with well-deployed studio gloss -- was a perfectly enjoyable piece of work. Throwing squadrons of neon-colored muscle cars and a still-trying Vin Diesel into the middle of an overheated potboiler drama about family honor and loyalty turned out to be a genius stroke; the thing left scorch marks. It moved with the skillful speed of well-honed pulp. By contrast, the near-laughable Fast & Furious (directed by Justin Lin, who did the honors on the last installment, Tokyo Drift) tries far too hard and achieves very little.

Bobby Z Review

OK
If there's one thing you learn from movies, it's that you should never -- under any circumstances -- expect that working for the Man (DEA, CIA, FBI, any of them really) is going to be easy. Especially if they ask you to impersonate the legendary Bobby Z, drug dealer and beloved surfer (yes, you read that right), in a hostage exchange with a Mexican drug kingpin. You can pretty much guarantee that things are going to sour. And fast. Yes, there will be blood, bullets and if you're lucky, some T&A.

Former Marine and perpetual bad boy Tim Kearney (Paul Walker) has been asked to do just that. Serving a long prison sentence for all manner of illegal activities, Kearney is given conditional release if he's willing to impersonate the missing Bobby Z. DEA agent Tad Grusza (Laurence Fishburne) sets Kearney up for the exchange. Kearney looks enough like Bobby Z to pass muster, but the exchange goes to hell and Kearney is left to fend for himself. When he's captured and taken to Don Huerto's (Joaquim de Almeida) palatial Mexican estate, he meets Bobby Z's old flame Elizabeth (the striking Olivia Wilde) and her teenaged son, Kit, who just might be his (well, Bobby Z's) kid. Because Kearney isn't Bobby Z, and because he's far too brash and selfless, all sorts of trouble ensues.

Running Scared Review

Good
Like Paul Walker's character in it, Running Scared is a lot smarter than it looks. Unfortunately, it spends as much time being dumb as acting dumb, making for an experience that can be as frustrating as it is entertaining. The film is basically three different movies: One, a straightforward crime drama, probably its strongest suit. Two, a satire of the genre, working on many levels from Peckinpah-esque examination of the male psyche to urban Grimm fairy tale. And, sadly, three, a genuinely clunky thriller. Unfortunately, you never know which you'll get from scene to scene, or even moment to moment.Paul Walker plays Joey Gazelle (Get it? He runs. This would be the less clever part.), a family man in suburban Jersey who also happens to work for the local mob. After a deal gone wrong ends up with a lot of dead people, some of them dirty cops, Joey is charged with his usual task of disposing of the gun that killed said cops. Joey, however, has been stashing the guns he's supposed to have ditched as an "insurance policy." When his son Nicky (Alex Neuberger) and his neighbor's kid Oleg (Cameron Bright) witness him adding the weapon to his collection, Oleg sees an opportunity to settle the score with his abusive father, Anzor (Karel Roden).Soon, Anzor is wounded, Oleg is on the run, and Joey has one night to get the gun back or end up dead at the hands of his own people. Since Nicky might know where to find Oleg, what ensues is the worst Take Your Kid To Work Day ever.Writer/director Wayne Kramer (The Cooler) displays an appetite for flashy camera tricks, but we're not in Domino territory here, thank God. Unlike Tony Scott, Kramer shows some restraint and variety, but the frequent double exposures still wear thin. Just as often, though, he creates intimate spaces where his characters can interact, isolated from the surrounding chaos. The writing varies from sly satire to witless implausibility. Chazz Palminteri's character, a dirty cop, steps into more than one commercial parody in the film, making a passing reference to the actor's own Vanilla Coke ad in the process. At the same time the film relies far too much on coincidence to further the plot. The performances here are all adequate. Walker shows that he can do a convincing Jersey accent. Vera Farmiga's performance as Joey's wife is uneven, but effective when it really counts. Bright pulls off the eerie thousand-yard stare of a kid who's seen too much at home, and so is unfazed by the monsters he encounters in the real world. The deliberate nature of some of Kramer's choices suggest something bubbling under the surface. He sets a key action scene in a hockey rink, a place of socially acceptable violence. Anzor has a tattoo of John Wayne on his back, and carries an obsession with the actor that might serve as a commentary on film violence. References to ultra-violent films like Scarface surface from time to time. It's clear that Kramer's trying to say something, but what?Unlike Revolver, which pretentiously aspires to levels it never achieves, Running Scared aspires to levels it occasionally achieves without ever taking itself too seriously, and while being massively entertaining even when it's not making a whole lot of sense. Kramer's sophomore effort shows flashes of brilliance but smacks of an artist still working out what he wants to say and how he wants to say it. It may not be Peckinpah, but if you're a fan of the genre, it's probably worth a look. The DVD includes a commentary track, storyboards, and behind-the-scenes featurette.Sitting unscared.

Eight Below Review

Weak
When you see the phrase "inspired by a true story," you assume the accompanying movie will have the intimate perspective of someone affected by adversity. Eight Below, Disney's sled dogs in peril picture, is a case of false advertising. You get a true story only told by someone rattling off headlines and first paragraphs: "Dogs Abandoned in Snow," "Owner Sad About Dogs Missing." The only adversity worth following, which the movie doesn't cover, is how Paul Walker kept his dreamy tan in the Arctic cold.

The year for some reason -- the actual events happened in 1957 -- is 1993. Walker plays a guide at the National Science Foundation's base in Antarctica, where he and his eight sled dogs cover the terrain, helping with expeditions. Bruce Greenwood plays a big-shot scientist who comes to the cold continent looking for the remains of an asteroid or something else out of a Michael Bay movie. The men head out on the sled, encounter a heap of trouble, and barely return to headquarters.

Joy Ride Review

Excellent
Ever make someone else the brunt of a practical joke -- only to learn the joke is really on you? The characters in Joy Ride have, and after the lessons they learn, you can bet they'll never, ever tease anyone else again.

Joy Ride has clearly learned from similar, high-octane road thrillers like Breakdown. It calculates every move, but seldom do we see the surprises coming. The film explores the misadventures of a college student named Lewis (Paul Walker). Lewis is a nice guy, having just bought a used car to travel all the way across the country to help a friend in need (Leelee Sobieski). Along the way, he also stops to post bail for his troublemaking brother, Fuller (Steve Zahn), and give him a ride as well.

2 Fast 2 Furious Review

Weak

When even a skillful writer-director with soul to spare like John Singleton ("Boyz 'N' the Hood," "Shaft") can't lend a street-racing movie an ounce of personality, it becomes abundantly clear that the trendy genre never had anything worthwhile to offer in the first place.

Stepping behind the camera for the carbon-copy sequel "2 Fast 2 Furious," Singleton frontloads the film with one scene of enjoyable B-movie flair -- a midnight drag race punctuated by car-wake camera shakes, colorful background-blur effects, and cheesy close-ups of revving tachometers, needle-buried speedometers and bad actors squinting with determined concentration as they grip the wheel.

But as soon as the movie is sideswiped by its imbecilic plot, Singleton loses his ironic sense of style and the flick crashes and burns.
