A television series based upon the well-loved 1990 romantic movie Ghost is said to be underway. Paramount is reportedly working on a pilot with a view to resurrecting the movie, which has recently been reincarnated as a theatre show, to bring it to television screens.

Patrick Swayze
The Late Patrick Swayze's Most Famous Movie, 'Ghost,' Is To Be Brought To TV.

In the original movie, Patrick Swayze played a murdered man who comes back in ghost form to team up with a psychic (Whoopi Goldberg) to avenge his death and comfort his distraught girlfriend, Molly (Demi Moore).

The movie was incredibly successful for the time, grossing $505 million worldwide and garnering Oscars, Golden Globe awards, and BAFTAs. It is hoped that that success has lingered enough for Paramount to make a hit TV series adaptation. The studio has hired writers Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind) and Jeff Pinkner, who worked with Goldman on Fringe, reports The Wrap.

"We are thrilled to collaborate with Akiva and Jeff, two deeply creative and accomplished talents, on the television adaptation of this classic supernatural drama," Paramount TV president Amy Powell said in a statement.

Demi Moore and the late Patrick Swayze's supernatural lovers will forever own the roles for fans of Ghost. However, Paramount will have the tough task of casting the roles for a new generation. So who will they pick? Of course, no one can really step into Swayze's shoes so an actor will need to come along who'll overturn the roles and make it his.

Whoopi Goldberg

Perhaps Paramount will opt for a loveable hunk, such as Channing Tatum, Jesse Williams or Charlie Hunnam. The latter would be interesting foremost because he'd get his turn in a romance but would retain the sophistication that would have presumably have been lost should he have gone forward with his Fifty Shades of Grey Role.

Alternatively, the studio may opt for a more thoughtful yet intense actor such as James Franco, Emile Hirsch or Ashton Kutcher. Kutcher's would be a controversial casting due to his divorce from original Ghost star Demi Moore. However, the Punk'd star has shown a lot of maturity and acting integrity recently which means he could be up for consideration.
