For Sir Patrick Stewart's last hurrah as Professor Charles Xavier in the third and final Wolverine film 'Logan', the actor really got to spread his wings with the character. No longer is the leader of the X-Men a level-headed wise old mutant, he's an unhinged and unpredictable mess.

Even mutants get old, as we see with Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) in the final installation of his spin-off film series. He doesn't heal as quickly as he used to, which means that he never gets a chance to get on top of his game before the next fight comes around. Professor X, however, is a whole other story; age has hit him in a way no-one could have expected.

'Not only will you see a different side of Charles, you'll see a transformed Charles', Patrick Stewart explained in an interview in the lead-up to the film release. 'The controlled, intelligent, sensitive intellectual has been replaced by a scatterbrained, crazy, physically fragile and highly dangerous individual. That one could ever imagine that Charles Xavier could become a dangerous member of society is unthinkable, but here he is putting the world at risk.'

It becomes a serious problem when a young girl named Laura (or X-23) gets involved in their lives and gives them a whole new responsibility. The film makes for an impressive and deadly serious end to veteran star Patrick's 'X-Men' stint, which will no doubt intensify with his next big role: he'll play the Poop emoji in the forthcoming animated comedy 'The Emoji Movie' which will be directed and co-written by Tony Leondis and co-stars Jennifer Coolidge, T.J. Miller and James Corden. Patrick has also finished filming another new comedy from Damian Harris entitled 'Wilde Wedding' which features Glenn Close and John Malkovich.
