Let's talk about One Direction. Again.
Hello, this is your resident One Direction correspondent speaking. The Brit wonder made a splash at last night’s American Music Awards with a double win. Not only did they give a pretty brill performance of Night Changes, they also won three whole awards – for Artist of the Year, Favorite Pop/Rock band and Favorite Pop/Rock Album. Their appearance in full force and good health served to quash some rumours from earlier in the week, when Zayn Malik reportedly went down with a stomach flu.
1D at the AMA. Ok, but what is Liam's shirt even?
The rumours of course, were that his illness was less flu-like and more... substance related. Basically, people were saying that 21-year-old Malik was on drugs. All those rumours (or most of them anyway) were quashed last night. Not only did he appear to be in good health, if a little on the quiet side during interviews, Malik also performed two solos on Night Changes. And yes, his voice sounded just fine throughout.

Zayn Malik was nowhere to be seen when One Direction kicked off their promotional tour for their newest album 'Four,' released today, with an appearance on the 'Today' show in Orlando this morning (Nov 17th), but this does not mean he has a drug problem!

Prior to their performance, the 'Today' show host Matt Lauer quizzed the rest of the band about Zayn's whereabouts, and implied the 21 year-old singer was absent due to struggling with substance abuse issues.
The 21 year-old singer's unexpected absence forced the rest of the band to clarify that he is simply ill and not suffering with substance abuse issues.
One Direction kicked off their promotional tour for their newest album 'Four,' released today, by appearing on the 'Today' show in Orlando this morning (Nov 17th), but the 15,000 strong crowd gathered to see the band's performance noticed that they were one man short.
Zayn [second from the left] missed One Direction's 'Today' show performance this morning
Zayn Malik was nowhere to be seen during the band's morning show appearance, and since this isn't the first time he has been a no show, rumours quickly began circling that the 21-year-old singer is struggling with substance abuse issues.
Pink Floyd's last ever album went straight to Number 1.
And they’re back! By them, I obviously mean Pink Floyd and by back, I mean their new album , The Endless River, has topped the UK chart, making this the first Pink Floyd album in ten years to reach the milestone.
They did indeed beat One Direction!
They did give one hell of a teaser though, announcing that The Endless River would be their last ever album. How could fans resist buying it, after that kind of threat? On its release, The Endless River became the third fastest-selling by a single group or artist this year after shifting more than 139,000 copies during the last week.

Adele has been criticised by a British tabloid after Bob Geldof allegedly told their reporter she "ignored" his requests to participate in Band Aid 30.
Adele is not taking part in Band Aid 30.

Harry turned up bright and early ahead of his One Direction bandmates
Fans waited outside the recording studio in Notting Hill all morning to catch a glimpse of their favourite artists, with One Direction’s Harry Styles among the first to arrive.
The Once Direction singer is apparently the inspiration behind the songs 'Out of The Woods' and 'Style' off Swift's latest album.
As well as being one of the music industry's most successful young stars, Taylor Swift is also known as a serial dater after having brief romances with several high-profile stars, but her 2012 relationship with Harry Styles seems to always be on the 24 year-old singer's mind.
Styles says he is "lucky" to be the subject of Swift's songs
Swift's lyrics often depict one of her failed relationships, and it is rumoured that the songs 'Out of The Woods' and 'Style' off her latest album are about the One Direction band member, but he takes this as a compliment.
A recent interview with One Direction heartthrob Harry Styles has sent the rumour mill spinning about the singer’s sexuality.
There's always hysteria with Harry Styles
Anna Todd's erotic tales are set to be adapted for the big-screen by Paramount.
Is Harry Styles really Hardin Scott?
Written by 25-year-old Anna Todd - who began exploring the world of fan-fiction after her husband was deployed to Iraq - the tales were initially released chapter by chapter via the online Wattpad community. The e-book features a version of Harry Styles known as "Hardin Scott", who is a student -not a singer.

Will the world's cutest chimpanzee make you watch One Direction's new video?
We never thought we'd be going 'Awwwwww!' while looking at pictures of One Direction, but the hairy co-star of their forthcoming new music video 'Steal My Girl' is killing us with unwavering cuteness. Those easily overwhelmed, look away now.
It was surprising, not to mention mildly amusing, when it was announced that Danny DeVito would be making an appearance in the video - it made us, admittedly, a little bit curious. But now that we've seen the other special guest on the set, a sunglasses-wearing chimpanzee, we're eager to see him in action.
Real music fans, prepare to rejoice as Pink Floyd become bigger than One Direction. Sort of.
It's frustrating for any musical connoisseur that carefully manipulated pop reigns highest on most music charts, but it looks like psychedelic legends Pink Floyd could beat One Direction on Amazon's most pre-ordered albums list with their final release 'The Endless River'.
The band, whose last album ten years ago entitled 'The Division Bell' became a worldwide number one, managed to easily overtake Coldplay's 'Ghost Stories' as most pre-ordered album of 2014 and now their new record may be held up as the most pre-ordered of all time - a title currently held by One Direction's 'Midnight Memories'.

The actor has also introduced the boys to ‘troll foot’...
It may sound like an unlikely pairing, but One Direction and Danny Devito will soon be sharing the screen together, as the actor and director has filmed a cameo for the band’s next music video. In 'Steal My Girl’ which was shot in Los Angeles last Friday (October 10th), DeVito stars opposite Harry and the gang as the music video's director.

It's officially One Direction season! The UK superstars have a thing for a releasing an album every year around November, and they're keeping up the tradition in 2014. One Direction's fourth album, Four, will be out November 17 2014.
One Direction are releasing their fourth album on November 17
Taking some notes from Maroon 5 (who titled their recently released record, V) 1D decided to go ahead and just call their record by its number in their discography. However, for some reason they opted against the way cooler looking IV and settled for the ugly Four … but then again, they’re One Direction. They can basically do whatever they want. The guys teased the album announcement early Monday morning and followed it up with a video update spilling the news, but they also gave something a little extra, too. In an effort to apparently break the entire Internet, One Direction also decided to debut Four’s lead single, ‘Fireproof’ - and give it away completely for free, too.

As reported by Billboard, the long-standing almanac of impressive achievements is adding the musicians for various reasons, Metallica's being they are the first band to play a gig on all seven continents. They completed this feat this year in fact, when they treated some unusual guests to a show in Antarcita. Not to mention the 300 very curious penguins!"

What exactly makes 5 Seconds of Summer a boy band?
Auto-tuned vocals, dashing good looks, and a bunch of outside writers and producers making the songs. Those are probably the most common qualities that you'll find in your standard boy band. But what about the so-called boy bands that transcend these stereotypes - the "boy bands" that are far from what's considered manufactured? Will they ever stand a chance, or is it too easy to give in to the mainstream pressure?
5 Seconds of Summer have been living up to their ‘Next Big Thing’ title
In general, there's the automatic assumption that a boy band equals bad music, but what exactly equals a boy band? You could say that pop music is the instant boy band qualifier, and the poppier the music is, the more it'll be discredited. But when you look at a band like Fall Out Boy - one of the poppiest and biggest pop rock bands in the world - why are they considered a "real band" when they aren't all that different from an act like 5 Seconds of Summer? Obviously, there's a ton of differences between the two groups, but the point is that they both started out as just some guys looking to play music together. The type of music isn't what makes a band a boy band, but rather, it's the marketing behind them.

It looks as if One Direction are now officially Britain’s biggest pop act, after the boy band were named 2013’s best selling artist. The band’s success was topped off in November when their third album, Midnight Memories, became the year’s biggest selling album worldwide.

One Direction isn't ending anytime soon, but here's why Harry Styles is destined to get even bigger after the boyband is over.
All good things must come to an end someday, which means that One Direction is eventually breaking up. Sorry, I know, it’s a sore subject for me, too. They’ve consistently put out great pop albums year after year, so it’s not like they should break up, but being in a boy band with a bunch of other guys sharing your spotlight puts a damper on your own personal success, too. Why stick around and split the profits when you can be a bigger star all on your own?! For some pop acts like Emblem3, it doesn’t make a difference who leaves, because nobody is really going to care about whatever solo thing they do. But groups like The Wanted? Nathan Sykes is bound to get big with anything he does now that The Wanted is done.
With One Direction, all five of those guys are going to do big things too, but nobody will reach a star status as big as Harry Styles will, because let’s face it: Harry Styles is the lead of One Direction. Every pop group has one, whether people want to believe it or not. Nathan was the lead of The Wanted, James Bourne was the lead of Busted, and Normani Hamilton is totally the lead of Fifth Harmony. It’s not insulting the other members, but the leads just have something that their bandmates don’t. For Styles, he’s clearly the most popular, and arguably even has the best pipes.

Things got out of hand when 1D performed in Amsterdam last night.
One Direction’s Niall Horan reached out to fans on Twitter yesterday with a very important plea – stop throwing things onstage. The concept, which may be obvious to some, was clearly unfamiliar to attendees at 1D’s gig in Amsterdam on June 25, during which the 1D guys got pelted with a number of objects thrown by fans. Niall, who went through unspecified “major knee surgery” back in January, is still recovering.
Love hurts sometimes, especially if you're an international pop star.
He made sure to keep his tone as pleasant as a boy band singer has to be, but still told off the rowdy fans – in his own way.

Fans appear to have forgiven One Direction for their recent smoking scandal as they hit Edinburgh for a record-breaking show.
On Tuesday night (3 June 2014) One Direction took to the stage at Edinburgh Murrayfield Stadium for thousands of Scottish 1D fans, as their 'Where We Are Stadium Tour 2014' arrived in the country's capital.
Despite a lot of fans claiming to have abandoned the band after a video of members Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson smoking marijuana in Peru was uploaded, it seems the British boyband still have fans aplenty, as they broke the record for the biggest single show in Scottish history with 64,000+ fans almost filling the 67,800 capacity venue.

Once again, One Direction have become front page news, but do people really find their recent drugs 'scandal' shocking?
Being caught with a joint is really nothing new in the world of pop, especially amongst those aggressively seeking a change of image that will subsequently add a semblance of ‘edge’ to their persona. For child stars especially, in attempts to free themselves from their enforced clean-cut youth and iconic childhood roles, to indulge in the smoking of marijuana is the go-to method of both distancing oneself from the past and declaring oneself as a fully independent adult.
The group have come under fire from the tabloids for Zayn and Louis' actions.
The celebrity world abounds with examples of such exploits. Remember the media storm over Justin Bieber’s incident with a “suspicious cigarette” or Miley Cyrus’ bong exploits, which have now evolved into her free and consistent utilization of marijuana symbolism? The celebrity media loves a scandal more than a Republican loves his right to bear firearms, but whilst the current One Direction drug ‘scandal’ has rather predictably been plastered all over the tabloid’s front pages, the majority of the public greets it with a collective shrug of the shoulders. They are, after all, adolescents- the prime age for indulging in experimentation with illicit substances and activities. Most adults will have indulged in similar instances of experimentation with an array substances at a similar age to these patchy-bearded pop stars. In terms of the pop world, this particular act has been seen many times before; so many times, in fact, that the whole ‘rebellion’ phase is part and parcel of the child actor discourse. Some take it just a little too far, and the ensuing descent into drugs has unfortunately claimed the lives of many of Hollywood’s exploited youngsters.
Things got a little seedy in this week's colourful canvas of celebrity happenings.

The Outrage: Seth Rogen has been forced to abandon his goofy bear act this week to stand up against Washington Post critic Ann Hornaday, who wrote a controversial column implying that the "frat-boy" style movies comedians Rogen and Judd Apatow produce could have fuelled Elliot Rodger's horrific mass shooting last week. Rogen and Apatow let Hornaday have it...and it wasn't even slightly funny. Read more.

The One Direction star is seen puffing on a joint in Peru in a new video.
Louis Tomlinson of One Direction has come under fire for not only sharing a marijuana joint with fellow band member Zayn Malik but also using a shortened version of the N-word in the same leaked video. The new clip has sent shockwaves through One Direction's young fanbase as it presents a very different image to that of the usually squeaky clean singers.
Filmed in the car on the way to a recent concert in Peru, the clip shows Zayn and Louis joking around with members of their crew and passing around a joint which is referred to as "Mary Jane," a euphemism for weed. Feathers have also been ruffled by Louis' flippant attitude towards police that they pass and is heard referring to the law enforcers as the "po po."
Tomlinson is heard seeming to say "It's green only, n**" and blowing spoke whilst sharing the joint with the other passengers. A motorcycle police officer drives past and Louis says: "He's having a look. He's thinking 'I'm sure I can smell an illegal substance in there'. And he's hit the nail on the head."

Kim Kardashian has fired back at those who criticize the 10% she donates to charity from her eBay sales. How does she fare up against these other philanthropic celebrities?
It must seem to poor Kim Kardashian like she can’t get anything right! Kardashian has come under fire for donating only 10% of the profits which she rakes in from clothing auctions on auction website eBay to charity. RadarOnline have managed to get their hands on the tax documents from Kim’s November auction, for which she raised money for Life Change Community Church in California. The documents state that Kim donated $19,975 to charity, a pretty meagre sum in the grand scheme of things, considering the mum of one is worth an estimated $40 million.
Kim Kardashian has fired back at those who criticize her charitable giving
Kim has hit back at her critics, claiming, ‘I don’t publicize everything I do to help charities and people all over the world...So for people to attack me for giving 10% of my eBay auction sales to the people of the Philippines, that hurts. I do eBay auctions monthly and change the charity or church from time to time. I give 10% of all my earnings to charities, not just these eBay auctions.’
It's the Grammys and the Oscars all rolled into one - with added slime.
Surprise, surprise, Jennifer Lawrence was among the winners at last night’s Kids Choice Awards. Lawrence won for Favorite Movie Actress and Favorite Female Buttkicker, which might just be the best award title ever invented. In more news you probably saw coming, everyone’s favorite band of perfectly coiffed British dudes, One Direction, won Favorite Music Group and Favorite Song with Story of Us.
More importantly, the award show continued the beloved tradition of surprise slimings. For those not in the know, that’s the show’s way of combining humor with mild public humiliation, by pouring buckets of green goop on several unsuspecting presenters. One of the most hotly anticipated parts of the award show is finding out which celebrities needed an extra thorough shower at the end of the night. This year there were only three victims – Pharell Williams, sporting bright yellow SpongeBob SquarePants pajamas, took a shot of the show's trademark green goo, but he took it like a champ. Check out the full list of winners below, via Billboard.
One Direction and Jennifer Lawrence took home two awards apiece at Nickelodeon's Kids' Choice Awards. One Direction were voted Favourite Music Group and received the award for Favourite Song whilst Lawrence took home Favourite Movie Actress and Favourite Female Buttkicker.
Pharrell and Kaley Cuoco did not manage to avoid the slime at this year's Nickelodeon's 27th Annual Kids' Choice Awards. The awards, hosted by Mark Wahlberg, were held yesterday night (29th March) at the USC Galen Center in Los Angeles.
One Direction won the awards for Favourite Music Group and Favourite Song.
Music wise, One Direction did incredibly well gaining the awards for Favourite Song with 'Story of My Life' and Favourite Music Group. Whilst, in the solo category, Justin Timberlake received took home the award for Favourite Male Singer and Selena Gomez for Favourite Female Singer. Gomez was seemingly delighted with the award and tweeted thanking her fans for voting for her, adding a picture of her after the awards grinning broadly.
Are 5 Seconds of Summer, the punky Australian foursome, set to overtake One Direction in the battle of the boybands?
Boy band fans, brace yourselves! Australian pop rockers 5 Seconds of Summer may be about to overtake One Direction in the battle of the cute boy bands. The four cheeky chappies first teamed up in 2011 when the school friends formed a band and began recording cover songs which they then posted on YouTube.
The four piece Australian band look set to become as popular at One Direction
Made up of Luke Hemmings, Michael Clifford, Calum Good and Ashton Irwin 5 Seconds of Summer, affectionately nicknamed 5SOS by their enthusiastic fans, have gathered nearly 2 and a half million Twitter followers, still falling shy of One Direction’s 18 million fans, but certainly showing potential. The boys quickly became an internet sensation, cemented when they supported 1D on tour around the UK, USA, Australia and New Zealand in 2013. They have since been signed to Capitol Records and are currently hard at work on their debut album.

Could Harry Styles have outgrown One Direction?
Harry Styles is everywhere as of late but usually it's without his One Direction bandmates. Solo Styles has been stepping out without the other boys so much lately it's leading some people to wonder if the boy band member is about to go on his own 'direction' (we had to). As much as any break up talk may pain the group's many, many loyal fans, it has become rather apparent that Harry’s fame is somewhat eclipsing the other band members.
If you can only name one member of One Direction, it's probably Harry Styles
You really can’t escape Harry Styles as of late, his love life has made him a tabloid fixture (Kendall Jenner, Alison Mosshart, anyone?), he’s being FROW-ing at London Fashion Week and he’s even been writing some songs with Irish band Kodaline. Actually, it seems the only people who have managed to escape Harry are, well his One Direction bandmates. Despite the boys appearing together at last month’s Brit Awards, the group really haven't been showing much unity as of late, instead everything seems to have become the Harry Styles' show. Even at the Brits ceremony he took the spotlight by having to dash on to the stage late when the band collected their global success award.

Liam Payne has revealed the band rarely see each other as Harry Styles pens a tune with John Legend, but are One Direction splitting up?
One Direction may have walked away with their fourth BRIT award on Wednesday (this time the award acknowledged their Global Success) but that hasn’t stopped talk of One Direction splitting up. 1D was formed in 2010 after they finished third in the seventh series of The X Factor and have since gone on to achieve worldwide fame, as well as accumulating an extremely spirited and vocal bunch of fans along the way. Their three albums have broken all sorts of records and have topped global charts so the last thing that anybody expected was the shocking revelation that they may have come to the end of the line (note educated reference to ultimate 1990’s boy band lyric).
Last week 1D bagged the BRIT for Global Success
The rumours that One Direction are splitting up began when member Liam Payne revealed that the award ceremony last Wednesday marked the first time that band members had seen in each other for three months. Fans flew into a panic that their favourite bunch of cheeky chaps are apparently not in as close contact as they would like the believe, fueling rumours that if the boys haven’t been in touch perhaps they are on rocky ground.
Continue reading: So, Are One Direction Splitting Up?
The three biggest acts of the Brits couldn't be more different.
David Bowie still knows how to steal the show. He proved as much during Wednesday’s Brits, without even attending the ceremony. Bowie won best British Male during the 2014 ceremony, making something of a comeback after his last win in 1984. His latest album, The Next Day, represents an musical achievement, unrivaled in the past two decades at least. Without once appearing onstage, Bowie stage-managed his first album in a decade, and managed to top the UK Album Chart and go to Number 2 on the Billboard Chart. In short, congrats to David Bowie, who, at 67, continues to win everything.
David Bowie. That is all.
In other Brit news, the winners this year were quite a diverse bunch, from Bowie to the Arctic Monkeys to One Direction. Indie quartet the Arctic Monkeys, who achieved new heights and international recognition with their 2013 album AM, unsurprisingly picked up the Brit for Best Album too. This prompted frontman Alex Turner to launch into an ever-so-slightly smug victory speech. “That rock-and-roll it just won’t go away. That rock-and-roll, it seems like it’s fading away sometimes, but it will never die,” Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner said as he received the band’s second gong of the night for the Mastercard British album of the year. The Arctic Monkeys also picked up Best Group, to which Turner reacted with “There’s that fifteen quid we put on One Direction to win down the drain.” Solid burn.

It was battle of the bands at the 2014 BRIT Awards as One Direction and Arctic Monkeys were both prized with some of the night's biggest honors.
The annual Brit Awards took place on Wednesday night (Feb 19th) at the grand venue of London's O2 arena, and with a line-up that included performances by Beyoncé, Bruno Mars, Bastille, Lorde and Katy Perry, the ceremony has to be one of the best to date.
So who did manage to pick up a 2014 BRIT Award?
Indie rockers Arctic Monkeys, who reside from Sheffield, Yorkshire, were once again victorious at their nation's premiere music event.
The One Direction popster is feeling a little fragile right now.
Niall Horan has asked for privacy after undergoing knee surgery that he claims was "much larger than anticipated." The One Direction singer was pictured last week walking on crutches with a large cast on his knee after arriving at Heathrow airport. Naturally, at the sight of the surprising new snaps, Horan's avid fans took to Twitter to demand to know what was what going on.

"So all I ask of you guys is that you would respect my Privacy as I try to recover and get for the where we are tour!" Niall wrote, prompting a stream of support from his followers.

Liam Payne's stunt backfired.
Liam Payne, The Older Looking One
In case you're unaware of the story: Payne posted a picture of himself dangerously balanced on the roof of a 34-floor building. The image was backlit by the lights of London, where the singer was apparently partying with friends from Wolverhampton.

The singer has apologised for the photo stunt that saw him stand on the 34 floor ledge of a skyscraper
One Direction star Liam Payne has said that he is sorry for his "extremely dangerous" photo stunt, in which the boyband singer stood 34 floors above the ground on the edge of a skyscraper. He described the stunt as "stupid" and "irresponsible" and apologised to any fans who were distressed by the picture.
Liam apologise profusely for trying to have a laugh with friends
The teen idol took to Twitter to apologise for the photo opportunity, which inexplicably made its way on to the front page of some UK tabloids on what wasn't exactly a slow news day, tweeting, "You may have seen a photo of me today taken on top of a building. I regret being there and having a photo taken."
Mark Wahlberg, in a talk show interview, joked about punching One Direction's Harry Styles as his daughters are obsessed with the British band member.
Michael Wahlberg appeared on Conan on Thursday night (9th January) and discussed his secret hated of One Direction! The 42-year-old actor told host Conan O'Brien how he wanted to punch Harry Styles as his young children were obsessed with him.
Mark Wahlberg wants to punch Harry Styles.
He explained how his two daughters, Ella (aged 10) and Grace (aged 4), absolutely adore the lead singer of the British pop group. The Ted actor imitated his daughter, saying "My 4-year-old's going 'Daddy, I like Harry.' And I'm like, 'Well I'm gonna punch Harry in the nose when I see him.'"

The Brit Awards jumped right into the middle of awards season by announcing their nominees, and there are plenty of artists from all over the world up for awards.
We are again right in the middle of awards season, and that doesn't just mean the Oscars. The Brit Awards have announced their 2014 nominations, and there aren't many surprises.
Bastille performs at Koko in London
The two leading artists are, as they should be, British acts. According to MTV, Disclosure and Bastille were each nominated for four awards, but the rest of the nominations were for artists all over the world.

Sandra Bullock was the big winner on the night, with Justin Timberlake and Ellen DeGeneres also taking home gongs
The People's Choice Awards kicks started awards season and the celebrities didn't let down as they came out in force and with style in Los Angeles for the fan-favourites awards show on Wednesday, 8 January. The 40th incarnation of the awards show, there was no shortage of class and glamour as the people's favourite movies, TV shows, actors and actresses were singled out over the course of the night.
With a total of four wins, Sandra Bullock was the night's big winner
Hosted by 2 Broke Girls stars Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs, the awards show held at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles gave out almost 60 awards in total, and with four wins in all it was Sandra Bullock who ended the night with the most wins of all. Bullock's wins included Favorite Movie Actress, Comedic Actress, Dramatic Actress and she shared the Favorite Movie Duo award with her Gravity co-star George Clooney. The buddy cop comedy The Heat that she starred in with Melissa McCarthy won the Favourite Comedic Movie award.
As one teen pop sensation falls, another one rises.
It looks like the blogosphere’s predictions are coming true and we are finally witnessing the sunset of Justin Bieber’s career. Given his antics in 2013, it won’t be a graceful one either. Both the teenybopper’s documentary and his new album are flopping in the UK. If you haven’t heard about Journals, aka Justin’s new album, you would be forgiven, since it came in 46th in the Christmas charts – the lowest debut of Bieber’s career. Even ten weeks of Music Mondays, during which Bieber released one new song to fans each week, couldn’t save the record from tanking.
Does this mean Bieber fever can be left in 2013?
But at least he still has that hit documentary and teenage girls will no doubt flock to see it en masse, right? Not quite. The Believe movie is suffering a similar fate, despite heavy promotion. According to the Mirror, Believe earned only $3.1 million (£1.88 million) in its first three days in the US – a fraction of the debut takings of his first concert movie, Never Say Never, which grossed nearly ten times that and took $70 million in total. This might be because the film is the kind of self-celebratory fluff that only diehard fans would be attracted to – plenty of arena footage, spliced with some less-than-thrilling behind-the-scenes moments and of course, some interviews with the man himself.

The two Take That bandmates went head-to-head in the charts this weekend, with Robbie holding out for the No. 1 spot
It was like 1997 all over again this weekend, as Robbie Williams and Gary Barlow battled it out for the Number One spot on the UK Album Chart. Much like the battles of the mid-to-late nineties, it was Robbie who came out on top again, making him the last artist to top the album chart in 2013.
The Take That guys were fighting for the top spot yet again
Robbie's new big band album, Swing Both Ways, held on to the No. 1 spot for a second week, having emerged victorious from another closely fought contest from last week. It was One Direction who Robbie managed to beat to the No. 1 spot last week, with his latest album beating Midnight Memories to the top spot by just 200 copies. This time around it was a relatively more clear contest, with Swing Both Ways outselling Gary Barlow’s latest solo effort, Since I Saw You Last, by approximately 12,000 copies.

One Direction and Beyoncé also ranked high up the list of 2013's most charitable celebrities
On the back of arguably her most successful year as a recording artist, 2013 has also seen Taylor Swift give, give and give as she was crowned the most charitable star of 2013. In the 'Top 20 Celebs Gone Good' list compiled by DoSomething.org, Swift was crowned the most giving celebrity of the year by the non-profit charity group following a year of helping the under-privileged.
Swift helped raise cash with Bon Jovi and Prince William with their rendition of 'Livin' on a Prayer'
In the past twelve months, Swift has donated $100,000 to the Nashville Symphony and raised money for the homeless in London with Bon Jovi and Prince William, but other than just giving away her money, Taylor has also given away plenty of her valuable time for charitable causes too. In addition to fronting group therapy sessions for her bullied fans, Swift has also pledged her time to a number of younger fans facing serious troubles. Among them, Taylor met with a 7-year-old fan named Grace Markel, who was struck down by a car on the way to a previous performance by Swift, before a show in September. She also spent some of her Christmas Day on the phone to a cancer-stricken fan who was spending the holidays in hospital.

Despite the holiday season and a certain band member's birthday, the 1D guys have been working hard this week.
One Direction will have some exciting news for fans with their video for Midnight Memories to be released sometime in the new year. The 1D guys were spotted just before Christmas Eve filming on Tower Bridge, with an agent for the musical fivesome later confirming for MTV News that the shoot was for the title track off their latest album.
The 1D guys delayed their holiday break to film the video for Midnight Memories.
A release date for the video has not been announced yet. Midnight Memories is the third single off the band’s third studio album (hopefully 3 is their lucky number) and follows similarly the similarly upbeat Best Song Ever and the ballad Story of My Life. Last week, viewers of the X Factor finale were treated to a live performance of the track, when the 1D guys appeared on the show.
One Direction is again being accused of lifting another band's song, but this time will it result in an actual lawsuit?
One Direction is back on the Billboard music charts (as they seem to be at any given time), but this time it may not be for their own music. Their song 'Midnight Madness' apparently is a little too close to a classic rock song, and that band may be thinking about suing.
One Direction attend the 2013 American Music Awards
'Midnight Madness' is currently No. 12 on the Billboard chart, but it seems to bear a striking resemblance to Def Leppard's song "Pour Some Sugar On Me," according to Time magazine. The Mirror UK is reporting the band is thinking of suing, but since they are a tabloid, it's very possible nothing will come from it.

The French music community said "non!" to the boys at the 15th NRJ Awards
One Direction were booed as they took to the stage at the NRJ Music Awards in Cannes, France, last week (14 Dec.). The British boy band were met with jeers when they took to the stage to collect their two awards, being met with boos from the audience both of the times they went up to the stage to collect their trophies.

'Britney Jean' debuted at No. 4 in the chart, while Brooks scored his ninth No. 1
Garth Brooks released his new box set, Blame It All on My Roots, to an eager fan-base last week, who have managed to see it rise from No. 3 in the Billboard 200 to the No. 1 spot this week. Britney Spears saw her new album debut to a rather lacklustre start on the other hand, as it only just managed to crack the top five, debuting at No. 4.
Brooks is back on top with his latest compilation
Brooks' second box set to reach the top of the charts - his first being 1998's The Limited Series - will have undoubtedly been helped by value Walmart were offering the six disc collection for. Initially being sold for $29.98 before a sale price of $24.96 was introduced this week, Blame It All on My Roots will likely be lining plenty of country fan's stockings come Christmas. The box set sold an additional 146,000 copies this week, enough to see it move two places to the top.
With three albums in two years, you can't fault the One Direction boys and the team working behind them for their productivity. That kind of efficiency is hardly seen in the music world today, what with touring taking up so much of an artist's time and marketing being relied on more than ever, and in these two short years the 1D boys and their legions of (mostly) young female fans have grown up somewhat. On 'Midnight Memories', Harry, Louis, Zayn, Niall and Liam try their best to show just how much they've grown up, incorporating more 'rockier' elements to their sound and even going acoustic and tender on a few others.
They've been picking up influences from whatever has been hot in the past year or so, taking ideas from Mumford and Sons, The Lumineers, Ed Sheeran and so forth. On their ever-so-slightly rocky parts, the band seem to have been taking influences from the pop rock heyday of the '80s, with Bon Jovi, Def Leppard and all those other bands your dad embarrassingly still listens to. Should they ever try to emulate any half decent artists, then their output might improve somewhat, but instead it continues to circle the drain of abysmal trite we've been subjected to since 'Up All Night'. Regardless of any changes made to their sound, if you didn't like 1D before 'Midnight Memories' then you're not going to like them now either, but at least the boys are taking some chances, no matter how small.
The album kicks off with 'Best Song Ever', which sticks to the power pop formula that lasted them so well over the course of 'Up All Night' and 'Take Me Home'. It's brash, cheesy and not nearly as good as 'That's What Makes You Beautiful' (admit it, it is a banger), but it also serves as a potential farewell to what has become their trademark sound. Everything gets a bit more Busted (or should that be McBusted now) from here on in, with a few asides for some more tender moments. The pace slows down dramatically for the ballad-y 'Story of My Life', with the boys each trying out their most contemplative personas for this number. 'You & I' is another quieted moment, one that doesn't even feature an anthemic chorus. It is here where the boys have actually made some steps away from their safe zone, even if it does contain a typically power pop chorus, in this pensive, acoustic number. Baby steps, but steps nonetheless.

Anchorman meets One Direction hysteria: what could possibly go wrong?
Paul Rudd kicked off his third go at hosting NBC's Saturday Night Live by ensuring that every 15 year-old pop music fangirl in the country was watching as he recited an opening monologue whilst being flanked by boyband One Direction. Rudd lamented that he had been overshadowed by previous musical guests Beyoncé and Paul McCartney only to be upstaged once again by the British fivesome.
[L-R] Carell, Rudd, Koechner & Ferrell Brought The 'Anchorman' Machine To 'SNL.'
"Don't worry Paul, we're not here to outshine you," Harry Styles reassured him. "Yeah, you do the comedy stuff and we'll stand back and blow kisses," Niall Horan added as the rest of the band looked on, presumably fighting back laughter.

Miley Cyrus was always going to star in the Monday morning gossip headlines when she was first announced as a performer at the 2013 MTV EMAs. The question was: what will she do? Besides 'twerking' with a dwarf during the award show's opening act - which included a rendition of her hit 'We Can't Stop' - there really wasn't that much to write home about regarding her performances. It was what she did to celebrate winning the Best Video award that won her the headlines.
