It's 1976 and with a lot of determination George and Ella Khan have managed to keep their family together. All but one of their seven children have grown up and the youngest, Sajid, is going through somewhat of an identity crisis. Totally unfamiliar with his Pakistani roots and becoming somewhat of a nuisance to his father he decides it's time to take drastic measures and takes his son back to Pakistan to visit some of his family.
As soon as the plane lands, Sajid is totally unimpressed by everything he sees and he doesn't take kindly to Pakistan and this new way of life but as he spends more time with his family, he does learn more about his heritage and the meaning behind family life.
West Is West is a follow up to the hugely acclaimed British movie East Is East which was released in 1999 and follows the Khan's, a mixed-ethnicity family who live in Greater Manchester, UK and are struggling to find a balance of 70's British culture and Pakistani traditions .
