Olivia Wilde Recalls Being Told She Was "Too Old" To Play Leonardo DiCaprio's Wife

Olivia Wilde Leonardo Dicaprio Martin Scorsese Margot Robbie

Olivia Wilde has revealed that she was rejected from a role on The Wolf of Wall Street as Leonardo Dicaprio’s wife for being “too old”, after auditioning for the part of the Duchess of Bay Ridge, Naomi Lapaglia.

The 32 year old actress, who was 28 at the time of the audition, told radio presenter Howard Stern that she was told by producers that she was too “sophisticated” for the role in the Martin Scorsese movie. Later, however, she discovered that the term was simply a euphemism for her age.

Margot Robbie was eventually selected for the part at the age of 22, in order to portray the on-screen wife of an actor who was 37 at the time. Wilde was therefore excluded for being too old despite being nine years DiCaprio’s junior.

Love The Coopers (aka Christmas With The Coopers) Review

Very Good

This may look like it's going to be a zany Christmas romp, but it's really a warm exploration of family connections, essentially an American take on Love Actually's multi-strand comedy-drama. At least it has an unusually strong cast and moments of hilarity scattered throughout the story. And while it's never very deep, the themes are strongly resonant.

The Cooper family is gathering for what Charlotte (Diane Keaton) hopes will be one last perfect Christmas together. She knows that her 40-year marriage to Sam (John Goodman) is on the brink, but is ignoring that to plan a massive dinner. Their son Hank (Ed Helms) is stinging from divorce and unemployment, while daughter Eleanor (Olivia Wilde) has picked up a hunky soldier (Jake Lacy) in the airport and asks him to pose as her boyfriend so her family will stop asking about her love life. Meanwhile, Charlotte's father Bucky (Alan Arkin) is trying to cheer up his favourite waitress (Amanda Seyfried), and Charlotte's sister Emma (Marisa Tomei) is delayed when a cop (Anthony Mackie) arrests her for shoplifting.

Narrated with wry joviality by Steve Martin, the interwoven stories are fairly simplistic, but each touches a raw nerve. And the above-average cast brings out the underlying themes without overplaying their scenes. Keaton and Goodman add subtle shades to the slightly undemanding central roles, while Arkin finds a couple of new textures to his usual twinkly grandad persona. Helms and Wilde strike the right balance in their intriguingly unlikeable roles, while Tomei gets the most complex character as a woman who feels like she's merely watched her life drift along. By contrast, the outsiders played by Seyfried, Lacy and Mackie are much less defined, but each actor brings just enough magnetic energy. The most wasted performer is June Squibb, as a ditzy old aunt who's little more than the requisite gross-out relative.

Did The 'Drinking Buddies' Cast All Get Hammered While Making The Movie?

Olivia Wilde Anna Kendrick Jake M. Johnson

When you’re making a movie about murderers, no one really gets killed. When you’re making a movie about magic, no one’s really casting spells. And when you’re making a movie about alcohol, no one gets drunk. Hang on a minute; no, wait.

Olivia Wilde and Jake JohnsonOlivia Wilde and Jake Johnson in Drinking Buddies

Anna Kendrick did. She got real drunk. But it wasn’t her fault, you see. “During a scene at the bar, they gave me fake beer, but then during a scene where I'm playing cards with Jake, they gave me real beer, and I didn't realize it!” she explained. “And so every time I lost, I was pounding beer, and I didn't realize it was real until halfway through the take. I was like, I'm super drunk right now!" (Huffington Post)

Incredible Burt Wonderstone Premiered At The Opening Of SXSW This Week

Jim Carrey Steve Carell Olivia Wilde James Gandolfini

One good thing to come out of SXSW this year (well, depending who you ask, of course), was The Incredible Burt Wonderstone. The Don Scardino-directed flick tells the story of a couple of childhood friends, whose friendship grows based on their shared love of magic, until they eventually grow up to become a world-famous magician duo. If that synopsis isn’t enough, the cast of Burt Wonderstone should certainly impress you – starring Steve Carell and Jim Carrey, the film also features names like Olivia Wilde, Steve Buscemi and James Gandolfini.

Burt Wonderstone premiered to a discerning crowd at the opening day of South By South West and the cast used the huge music, film and technology forum to have some fun. Jim Carrey decided to show up to the premiere in a red jacket and silver shoes in the style of his character. In light of the movie’s release, Carrey also commented on the strange relationship he’s had with magic: "I've always had this weird relationship with magic. I think it's fascinating and yet it annoys me because I can't figure it out." Well, let’s hope he can at least fake it convincingly.

The Incredible Burt Wonderstone hits theatres on March 15. In the mean time, you can catch the film trailer below.

Olivia Wilde And Jason Sudeikis Engaged, Second Time's A Charm

Olivia Wilde Jason Sudeikis

For most people the hope is that you marry once and it lasts forever, however that is less and less likely, and even more so in the upper echelons of 'celebrity'. However, second marriages are often the one that sticks.

The engagement between House's Olivia Wilde and Jason Sudeikis from Saturday Night Live was revealed in People magazine over the weekend. It will be the second marriage for both of them, so a US Weekly source said "they've both been married, so they've already experienced that and know what it entails. [Jason] finally found the one that made him want to commit," the source adds. "They've both been through it before and this has just felt right from the get-go. Everyone is happy for them."

Speaking to USA Today she revealed how excited she is about being a Mom one day: "Yes, yes, absolutely. I think it would be great." She said, "My mom was a great example of having a professional life and having a kid. It can be done. No one is saying it's easy. But I'm totally inspired by the idea of being a badass working professional mom.. I'm so into my dog. I can't imagine how I will smother my child."

Forget The Globes, Olivia Wilde And Jason Sudeikis Are Engaged!

Olivia Wilde Jason Sudeikis James Franco Liam Neeson Mila Kunis

Well, they kept this one quiet. Or maybe Olivia Wilde and Jason Sudeikis chose to announce their engagement just before the Golden Globes to keep things on the down low? The Change-Up actress confirmed the news over the weekend, tweeting on Sunday, "Thanks for all the sweet congratulatory love, friends! And may I compliment your savvy use of that nifty engagement ring emoticon."

A source told US Weekly magazine that funny-man Sudeikis, 37, popped the questions shortly after the festive holidays. "He finally found the one that made him want to commit. They've both been through it before and this has just felt right from the get go. Everyone is happy for them." It will be the second wedding for both stars:  Jason was previously married to the Pitch Perfect screenwriter Kay Cannon for six years, while Olivia was married to documentarian Tao Ruspoli for eight years before splitting in 2011. During a Glamour magazine event in October, Wilde opened up about the end of her marriage, saying, "I felt like my vagina died. Turned off. Lights out . . . you can lie to your relatives at Christmas dinner and tell them everything on the home front is just peachy. But you cannot lie to your vagina." She later boasted that she and Sudeikis "have sex like Kenyan marathon runners."

The actress is currently shooting Paul Haggis' romantic-drama The Third Person, about three interlocking love stories involving three couples in Rome, Paris and New York. The movie also stars James Franco, Liam Neeson and Mila Kunis.

Olivia Wilde Engaged To Jason Sudeikis Over The Holidays

Olivia Wilde Jason Sudeikis

It is a truth universally acknowledged that a man in possession of a great career in Hollywood must be in want of a wife, especially if said wife is a powerhouse actress in her own right, and Olivia Wilde and Jason Sudeikis are once again confirming the rule.

Sudekis proposed to the House actress shortly after the holidays, according to a report in People magazine and how could she say “no”? The pair have been dating since November 2011 and moved in together last year. Not being able to get any privacy doesn’t seem to have affected their relationship too much and despite being very public with their displays of affection, Wilde (28) has said previously that she has fallen “blissfully, hopelessly, wildly in love”. Seems only logical then, that she would jump at the chance to take her relationship with the 37-year-old Sudeikis to the next level. The couple has been spotted jet-setting around the world and most recently in Rome, where Wilde is had at work, filming her upcoming dramatic flick The Third Person.

No wedding date has been announced yet, but if the pair plan on tying the knot this year, they will have some pretty packed schedules to balance, with Olivia’s next film The Incredible Burt Wonderstone being released in March and Rush, directed by Ron Howard in September. Meanwhile, Sudeikis also has a couple of films in the pipes this year, including the animated film Epic in May and We're the Millers, costarring Jennifer Aniston, which hits theaters in August. Add a wedding to that and it looks like a packed, if exciting year is in store for the couple.

Steve Carrell, Jim Carrey And Alan Arkin's New Trailer For The Incredible Burt Wonderstone

Steve Carell Jim Carrey Alan Arkin Olivia Wilde James Gandolfini

Steve Carell is probably still funny to 14 year olds, and that's great. He's still got a market and he's still making plenty of movies, and plenty of money from them, so good on him. Once again however, his latest role looks abysmal. He's playing the eponymous magician of The Incredible Burt Wonderstone.

Having been enamoured as a child by television magicians he, along with his best friend Anton Marvelton (Steve Buscemi), makes it his career. Making it to be Las Vegas stars, eventually their act slowly goes down the pan, facing fierce competition from a long haired, dip-dyed street magician named Steve Gray, played by Jim Carrey (recently said to be the planet's funniest person by Judd Appatow). As the latest trailer shows, their gradually competing acts are something of a parody of the likes of David Blaine. However, Burt Wonderstone manages to enlist the help of the man that inspired him in the first place: Rance Holloway, played by the brilliant Alan Arkin

Despite having an impressive cast (Olivia Wilde and James Gandolfini also appear), from initial views of the trailer, it looks pretty terrible. We might be eating our words come March 15, 2013, and we'll happily do so, but it looks unlikely. Take a look at the trailer to decide for yourself:

Is The Sound Of Wedding Bells Muffled For Olivia Wilde And Jason Sudeikis?

Olivia Wilde Jason Sudeikis Tao Ruspoli

Olivia Wilde has hardy been shy about her feelings for partner Jason Sudeikis, of late.

An insider has told New York Daily News, though, that their relationship may not be all that it seems right now and suggests that those marriage rumors might well be a little hasty. According to the source, Sudeikis was thinking of popping the question to Wilde, but just lately, things have been strained between the pair, meaning that sound of wedding bells has gotten a little muffled of late.

Fans of the couple needn’t despair too much, though, it doesn’t sound as if the relationship is completely beyond repair. “They’re still talking,” the source reassured reporters and added “it’s a rocky road… but contact between them has not been cut.” Apparently, things went belly up for the couple around Thanksgiving Weekend, when Jason found text messages on Olivia’s phone that he didn’t take too kindly to. We’re not sure of the content of the messages but presumably it wasn’t just Olivia wishing her family a happy thanksgiving…

Of all the films being released close to Christmas time, perhaps only Django Unchained can rival Les Miserables for the sheer star power assembled amongst the cast. Both high budget films had their American premiere this week, and though Les Mis could boast a mighty triumvirate of Anne Hathaway, Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe, they were surely eclipsed by the embarrassment of riches that showed up last night in New York for Quentin Tarantino's new warped Western flick.

Back As A Baddie: Eric Bana On The Joys Of Being A Psychopath In Deadfall

Eric Bana Olivia Wilde Nicolas Cage Charlie Hunnam Sissy Spacek Kris Kristofferson

Eric Bana’s back to life as a baddie in Deadfall. He stars opposite Olivia Wilde in the movie, in which he plays a gun-toting psycho.

In his own words, the movie is “an adult drama where essentially it's all pushing us toward a scene where a dysfunctional family sits around the table at Thanksgiving, and is forced to give thanks because I have a shot gun pointed at their heads.” Cheery stuff, Bana… cheery stuff.

Explaining why he took on the role, he explained “I just thought it was a very well-written script; I thought it was very entertaining… It’s hard finding great scripts and it’s hard finding great dialogue and I really felt that this is a case where the two came together.” Talking about his co-star Olivia Wilde, Bana said “she’s a doll, you know and she’s very funny. You don’t get a true sense of that with Liza, her character, but no, she was great to work with… I just wish I’d had more stuff with her in the film. I got a kiss in, though. Managed to squeeze a kiss in. Even though she does play my sister.”

Olivia Wilde Moves In With Jason Sudeikis: Too Soon?

Olivia Wilde Jason Sudeikis

Olivia Wilde and Jason Sudeikis are officially a full-blown item after getting a place together, and a pretty swanky one at that. The 28-year-old actress opened up to USA Today about the downtown New York City apartment she shares with 'Horrible Bosses' star Sudeikis.

"I've been decorating our new apartment. That's a lot of what I do," she said. "I'm so domestic. We have a cool new electronic drum kit. It's a good life." Oh, we bet it's a good life. Wilde has now established herself as one of the most sought after leading ladies in Hollywood, whereas Sudeikis is raking in the megabucks, as always. Wilde says she and her new beau - who she's been dating since last year - spend nights "nerding out" and discussing working on a projects together. Wilde explained, "We talk about it all the time. We're constantly doing bits together. One day someone will turn a camera on that. It would be a good movie." Would it really? Perhaps.

To be fair, a collaborative project with Sudeikis is likely to be years away, given Wilde is currently working on no less than ten projects, including 'Drinking Buddies', a comedy starring Anna Kendrick and 'Rush', Ron Howard's highly anticipated biography of Formula 1 champion Niki Lauda.

However, her confidence is diminished when an unusual opponent also enters the competition. That opponent is 10-year-old adopted girl Destiny who is allowed to participate by her accepting but fairly sceptical foster parents Julie and Ethan. Cowboys & Aliens Review

Good
With such a blatant B-movie title, this well-made film really should be more fun to watch. Actually, this is an entertaining Western that sticks very close to the genre and only incidentally features bad guys from another planet.

Jake (Craig) wakes up in the desert with no memory of who he is or why he has a strange metal bracelet clamped onto his arm. He staggers into a dusty town, where the sheriff (Carradine) helps him until he clashes with local bully Percy (Dano), the son of power-mad landowner Dolarhyde (Ford), who has a history with Jake. But when strange airborne "demons" attack the town, Jake discovers that his bracelet is a weapon that can fight them. So Dolarhyde drafts him into a posse to hunt them down.

Bobby Z Review

OK
If there's one thing you learn from movies, it's that you should never -- under any circumstances -- expect that working for the Man (DEA, CIA, FBI, any of them really) is going to be easy. Especially if they ask you to impersonate the legendary Bobby Z, drug dealer and beloved surfer (yes, you read that right), in a hostage exchange with a Mexican drug kingpin. You can pretty much guarantee that things are going to sour. And fast. Yes, there will be blood, bullets and if you're lucky, some T&A.

Former Marine and perpetual bad boy Tim Kearney (Paul Walker) has been asked to do just that. Serving a long prison sentence for all manner of illegal activities, Kearney is given conditional release if he's willing to impersonate the missing Bobby Z. DEA agent Tad Grusza (Laurence Fishburne) sets Kearney up for the exchange. Kearney looks enough like Bobby Z to pass muster, but the exchange goes to hell and Kearney is left to fend for himself. When he's captured and taken to Don Huerto's (Joaquim de Almeida) palatial Mexican estate, he meets Bobby Z's old flame Elizabeth (the striking Olivia Wilde) and her teenaged son, Kit, who just might be his (well, Bobby Z's) kid. Because Kearney isn't Bobby Z, and because he's far too brash and selfless, all sorts of trouble ensues.

Conversations With Other Women Review

Excellent
Try to watch director Hans Canosa's Conversations with Other Women twice and in quick succession. The memories that haunt the film's reunited lovers subtly inform every look, line, and gesture between them. For that reason, the film not only stands up to, it demands subsequent viewings if one wants to fully appreciate its layers of double meanings and shaded subtext.

What immediately sets Conversations apart is how, over its 85 minutes, it makes such fun and inventive use of the split-screen technique. The technique's most obvious function is to convey how the story's man and woman (Aaron Eckhart and Helena Bonham Carter), no matter their passion for each other, inhabit disparate and irreconcilable worlds. But it goes brilliantly beyond that, using split-screen also for flashbacks, triggered by memory, in which younger versions of the characters (Erik Eidem and Nora Zehetner), play out the halcyon days of their long-ago romance. What's more, the details of these flashbacks warp and alter, depending on who's doing the remembering. In an intriguing twist, the split-screen projects not only alternate versions of the past, but of the present too -- showing variations on small but important moments either as a character perceives they happened or he/she wishes they had. It's a sensationally expressive use of a tired cinematic device, now revitalized and itself revitalizing a tired genre.
