Asif Kapadia, the director of award wining documentaries Senna and Amy has chosen Oasis as his next subject. Kapadia and James Gay-Rees will produce a feature-length documentary on the 90s Britpop band that will “chart the journey from the moment in 1991 when Noel joined his brother Liam’s band”.

According to Screen Daily, “the filmmakers have been given ‘unprecedented’ access to the band and unseen archive footage and the film will include candid insight from the famously stormy brothers”. The film will be directed by Mat Whitecross, who previously worked on Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll and Spike Island.

The film will reportedly be launched by Independent Film Sales at industry event AFM, which takes place between November 4th and 11th. Speaking abouted the film, Andrew Orr, managing director at Independent commented, "Oasis are without doubt one of the classic British rock bands, selling 70 million albums worldwide and defining the sound of a whole era.”

“At its heart are Liam and Noel Gallagher, two of the finest rock ‘n’ roll stars this country has ever produced. Mat’s sensibility and style are going to provide the perfect complement to this tale of the rise of one of the great rock ’n’ roll bands,” he added.

Earlier this year Amy, Kapadia’s documentary about late singer Amy Winehouse, broke box office records in the UK and worldwide. The film went on to become the highest grossing British documentary film of all time opening with a box office of £3 million on its first weekend
