‘The Vampire Diaries’ former star Nina Dobrev is “in talks” to feature in the rumoured re-boot of cult sci-fi movie Flatliners, according to new reports.

Movie news website Deadline claims that the 27 year old actress, who played the role of Elena Gilbert for six seasons of ‘The Vampire Diaries’ until last year, is negotiating with Sony about landing the role of Marlo, described as an “overachiever at the top of her class” in a reported re-make of the 1990 thriller. If successful, she’ll be joining Ellen Page and Diego Luna in the film.

The original Flatliners movie starred Kevin Bacon, Julia Roberts and Kiefer Sutherland as a group of medical students who design a series of experiments in order to cheat death and experience the afterlife. However, the experiences themselves give them frightening and nearly fatal hallucinations that force them to address issues in their lives.

The re-make is reportedly being directed by Niels Arden Oplev, who helmed the first Girl With the Dragon Tattoo movie, and will be going from a script by Source Code’s writer Ben Ripley.

Dobrev’s film credits outside of ‘The Vampire Diaries’ include The Perks of Being a Wallflower and The Final Girls, and she’s currently filming the Vin Diesel movie xXx: The Return of Xander Cage. She took to Instagram earlier this week to show off a painful-looking injury she sustained to her upper thigh after taking a tumble while filming on the set of the sequel.

“Film an action movie they said. It'll be fine they said,” she captioned the pic. “Movies may not be real but this is. The things we do for our craft! But hey, the way I see it, it's a small price to pay to get to do what you love! Ive always wanted to be in an Action Movie... be careful what you wish for!
