Niall Horan Says There's 'A Story' Behind Cheryl And Liam Romance

One Direction’s Niall Horan has spoken about his bandmate Liam Payne’s relationship with Cheryl, revealing, ‘there's a little bit of a story behind it’. The One Direction boys have known Cheryl since she was a judge on the ‘X Factor’ in 2010 where the group was formed. But last year her friendship with Liam took a romantic turn following her split from husband Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini.

There's a story behind Liam and Cheryl’s romance, according to Niall Horan.

Speaking in the new issue of Hello! magazine, Niall said: "There's a little bit of a story behind it but I won't be telling you that. She's a great girl, really fun. He's a top man and one of my best friends. She seems happy, he's happy, so I'm happy for them.”

Liam and Cheryl have a 10 year age gap between them and recently it was claimed that the One Direction star is desperate to prove himself to his older girlfriend. ‘Liam has fallen hard for Cheryl,’ a source told the Mirror.

‘He’s always trying to please Cheryl and trying to prove to her that he’s worthy of being her boyfriend, in the sense that he’s so young and was always afraid that she might not take him seriously.'

As for Niall, the Irish singer has told fans that they shouldn't expect a solo album anytime soon. “I’ve been in the studio writing bits and pieces. Nothing is really in the pipeline in particular, just keeping the mind ticking over and doing what I like,” he said.

“I’ve always been into the writing and trying out different things musically. I’ve made relationships with a few writers over the years so it’s been good calling them up saying, ‘Do you want to write?’ then popping into the studio. I haven’t done much, about five sessions maybe. I’ve just been chilling out.”
