Mexican Singer/actor Jose Manuel Figueroa Has Been Cast To Portray His Late Father Joan Sebastian In A New Tv Drama Based On The Beloved Musician's Life.
The veteran star lost his battle with bone cancer in July (15), and last month (Oct15), bosses at Mexico's Televisa network announced plans to honour his legacy with a 13-episode telenovela, produced and directed by Carla Estrada.
Now it has been revealed Figueroa will step into his dad's shoes to take on the lead role after Estrada convinced him to sign on.
Figueroa, 40, admits the project is "a big commitment" as he strives to "represent my father, in all aspects", but he won't be the only family member involved in the as-yet-untitled series - his younger half-brother Julian Figueroa, son of actress Maribel Guardia, will also be portraying Sebastian in his younger years.
The show is scheduled to premiere in 2016.
