Sean Gunn - actor and the brother of superhero film director James Gunn - thinks it is impossible to compare Marvel and DC as both studios are at different stages with their respective cinematic universes.
Sean Gunn thinks comparing Marvel and DC is like doing so with "apples and oranges".
The 50-year-old actor - whose brother is DC Studios chief James Gunn - has appeared in both superhero series through Marvel’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ trilogy and DC’s ‘The Suicide Squad’, though has now insisted the two rival franchises are too different to compare to one another because the latter is only just starting its cinematic universe whereas the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has dominated cinema for more than a decade.
In an interview with TheWrap, he said: "I came into the whole process of working at Marvel once the machine was kind of already up and running smoothly and doing well.
"DC, I've done ‘Suicide Squad’, but now they're kind of overhauling it, and it's now ever since my brother took over as head of the studio. It's sort of been a new process for them. So it would be, it's really kind of true, like trying to compare apples and oranges."
Even so, Sean explained that working with both studios felt "similar" to him because he got to collaborate with his brother.
He added: "Underneath it all, working with my brother is more similar than it is different to other things.
"So, the fact that I was working with James in Marvel and James in DC makes it actually … there's a lot more similarities in terms of process."
Sean is set to appear in his brother’s upcoming DC TV show ‘Creature Commandos’ and movie ‘Superman’, where he will play antagonist Maxwell Lord in the blockbuster.
The actor teased that his take on the supervillain will be completely unique and isn’t based on any previous live-action portrayals of the character.
He said: "It’s all from written materials with things that we figure we’re looking at."
Last month, James revealed that production on ‘Superman’ - which stars David Corenswet as the titular hero and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor - had finished and said he was “forever grateful” to have worked with such a brilliant cast and crew on the flick.
He wrote on Instagram: "And that’s a wrap. God bless our cast and crew whose commitment, creativity, and hard work have brought this project to life.
"I set out to make a movie about a good man in a world that isn’t always so much. And the goodness and kindness and love I’ve encountered on a daily basis on the set has inspired me and thrust me forward when I felt too spent to move on my own.
"Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. It has been an honour."
