With Daniel Craig signing on for another couple of films, James Bond fans are now crossing their fingers that director Sam Mendes will also be staying on to continue the pair’s phenomenal success with the franchise – and if Skyfall scriptwriters Neal Purvis and Robert Wade are to be believed, the omens look very good indeed.
The pair were talking at the Doha Tribeca Film Festival, according to The Daily Telegraph, and though their own joint association with the series is coming to an end, they said that Mendes had plenty of plans for the future one. "We're very happy to have done five Bond movies, I think we've gotten it to a good place” said Wade, adding "I know that John Logan (screenwriter) and Sam Mendes have come up with a plot for another one, which takes the pressure off because these films take up a lot of time."
As has been recently reported, Craig has signed up for a further three Bond films for a cool $49 million, comfortably making him the highest earning Bond of all time. It’s likely any deal with Mendes is likely to be a huge figure as well, but you can’t say they haven’t earned it; Skyfall was perhaps the most critically lauded Bond of all time, as well as setting records at the Box Office and perhaps even forcing its way into the reckoning come Oscar-time.
