New Rhodes Songs from the Lodge Album

Hotly-tipped, up and coming UK newcomers seem to be rather common these days. Perhaps it's a certain desire amongst the press to be the ones that discover and break the next big thing. If you hype a new band each week, at some point you're going to get lucky and have your predications proved right, aren't you?

So have this young collective got the strength to go the distance? Can they cut it with the big boys? Record company executives must be on tenterhooks, and distributors keeping their fingers crossed across the land.

It's sad then that New Rhodes manage only to come across as a slightly whining version of the Smiths, with elements of the Killers, but watered down beyond palatability.

There's nothing to distinguish these boys from the rest of the bands doing the sensitive indie band thing, borrowing their sound from the 30-something brothers' record collections. If for that reason only don't (ever) believe the hype, and don't bother with this.
