The newspaper writes that Netflix is in the early stages of developing the series and is currently looking for writers to work on the show. The series is said to be being touted by the company internally as a 'Game of Thrones' for a family audience'.

The story of Zelda centers on Linx, a young boy who is often tasked with rescuing a princess name Zelda and the kingdom of Hyrule, from the evil Gannon. Since its debut in 1996 the game has gone on to generate 17 different Nintendo editions as well as various spin-offs.

A Netflix spokeswoman declined to comment on the Wall Street Journal’s story, while a Nintendo spokesperson said the company “doesn’t comment on rumours and speculation.”
