Back in 2004, Jim Carrey would take the lead role in a movie adaptation of the first three books in the Lemony Snicket property, 'A Series Of Unfortunate Events'. Whilst many loved his rendition of the evil Count Olaf and enjoyed the flick, it wasn't the best-received movie, and those interested soon learned that its first big screen outing would also be its last.

Fast-forward to the modern day, and the series has been given new life in the form of a Netflix original. Premiering earlier this year, fans got to witness Neil Patrick Harris take on the role of Count Olaf, starring amongst a talented cast that also included Patrick Warburton, Malina Weissman and Louis Hynes.

It soon became clear that the small screen was the place best suited for the series, with the 10 episodes that made up the first season collecting together the events of Snicket's first four novels. Each novel would be split over two episodes, but this meant that by the end of Season 1, we would only be around a third of the way into the tale.

Unsurprisingly, this March it was revealed by Netflix that 'A Series Of Unfortunate Events' would be returning to the platform a second season in the near future.

Now however, TVLine are reporting that they've discovered the streaming service have quietly given the go-ahead for early renewal, and that a third season has already been ordered. They also state that an appeal for comment by Netflix was declined.

If the news is true, the amount of episodes per season stays the same and the way in which the books are split continues, then seasons 1-3 would bring us 12 of the 13 books available in the series. There's also the chance that if this is going to be a limited event, and season 3 is there to wrap things up, two extra episodes could be added to the final season to share the events of the final novel.

This should come as welcome news to those who binged the first season of the show and made it another hugely successful grab for Netflix. The streaming service continues to go from strength to strength when it comes to their original properties, so we can't wait to see where they and the cast and crew behind 'A Series Of Unfortunate Events' decide to go next.
