Neil Patrick Harris isn't planning to show off at the Emmy Awards.

The 'How I Met Your Mother' star, who is hosting the 65th annual awards ceremony in Los Angeles tomorrow (22.09.13) for the second time, claims he doesn't have any big surprises planned and just wants the event to run smoothly.

The 40-year-old star told 'The Talk': ''It's a fun awards show, because it honours television and all of the people that are there are in their own little bubble worlds. I'm just trying to keep the flow alive. My goal isn't to outperform or show off, my job is to make sure things are moving smoothly.''

But he added: ''I'm dancing like mad in this one.''

Elton John is set to perform at the event, including a tribute to the late flamboyant pianist Liberace.

Neil said: ''We have a performance by Elton John who has never performed at the Emmys before. He's doing a number from his new album, which is amazing.

''Carrie Underwood is going to be performing a number on it. That's a lot, plus there's 26 awards.''

James Gandolfini and Cory Monteith will also be honoured during the show.

The 65th Primetime Emmy Awards will be broadcast live on US channel CBS.
