5. Murcof Monotonu EP (12" - Context)
Charity shops have long been familiar with the kitsch album sleeves of the Tijuana Brass Band, and although Murcof may hail from the same sunny climes in Mexico, it seems very unlikely that he will be sharing any shelves in the vinyl section quite yet.
Far from being a florid affair, Murcofs music is electronica at its most stark and rigid. The four tracks featured here reinvent the classical sound with minuscule dissected samples of cello, violin, double bass which are reconstructed as minimal and leftfield electronic soundtracks. Tastefully reserved.
