8. Ali B Fabriclive 02 (Album - Fabric)
Outside of London he isnt the most prominent of the Fabric crew of residents, but nevertheless its now the turn of music experimentalist Mr Ali B to take to the decks and show us what hes worth.
Following on from James Lavelle may not be an enviable task but no doubt Alis Capital Radio Show, where he has a listener base of over half a million, alongside his longstanding Fabric residency (hes been there since the club opened), has put in good stead for handling an eager audience.
The twenty two tracks in his mix are skilfully handled, proving he cuts the mustard when it come to technical ability, probably more so than his predecessor. The whole mix leads in on a breaks and funk few minutes, with the likes of the Bassbin Twins Number 2 and DJ Techniques mind bending My Definition. Its not exactly a groundbreaking selection of tunes, much of this style could have been heard a few years ago but its easy to see why his residency has stood the test of time. Its got all the right ups and downs, breaks and build-ups. The perfect cocktail to cause crowd hysteria.
As the album continues so the theme gets more twisted and the beats get harder, even trancy. Laidback provides a top class head mangler with God Cant Stop, likewise PMT creates some waves with Gyromancer and the whole thing is finished off in exceptional style with Ills mental The Next Level and Mr Scruffs mellow (in parts) Night Time.
These are big club tunes and very possibly big bedroom tunes depending on the level of your enthusiasm of course.
