Leigh Nash Blue On Blue Album

Aptly from Nashville, Leigh Nash may be familiar to some as she was the vocalist of Sixpence None The Richer, who had a huge Top 5 radio-friendly hit with "Kiss Me" in 1999. Later that year they also released an ear-splitting cover of The La's classic "There She Goes", and then seemingly vanished. With the band officially calling it quits in 2004, this is Nash's debut solo effort.

Domestic bliss, including the arrival of her son Harvey, has a large influence on the output from Nash, both lyrically and musically. Many of her songs express the joys of motherhood, while warm melodies flow through many of the tracks and give the record a likeable charm. "Along The Wall" and "Between The Lines" are relaxing tunes, the former being a ballad that features a gentle piano section and introducing Nash's appealing voice. Ushered on an acoustic guitar, "Never Finish" is lush, with subtle backing harmonies to a big chorus that it is impossible not to be swept away by.

The sunshine pop of "Angel Tonight" stands out due to Nash's glowing vocal performance, while her declaration that she is "Happy and at ease" on "None Of It" is certainly affirmed by the positive vibes that emanate from the track. The only criticism that there is of "Blue On Blue" is a lack of variation, and it particularly tells by the time the final tracks come along. However, it doesn't spoil an easily accessible record that is an enjoyable soundtrack to relaxing afternoons in the summer sun.
