Flashlight Brown Blue Album

The fact that this group of young men decided to call their band 'Flashlight Brown' immediately suggests I am unlikely to be following them around with canine devotion through the snows of their native Canada on their next tour. It seems all the fantastically inspiring and artistic music that has come out of that country in the last few years (Constellation Records, Arcade Fire, Wolf Parade etc) has completely bounced off Flashlight Brown, who have opted instead for a petulant Californian Pop-punk sound.

The band eloquently deals with teenage problems; being sick of your hometown scene, 'now some inbred chicks on crack/ are rocking out to Nickelback…' Unhealthy infatuation with a girl 'every time I lick her all she does is make me sicker,' and all manner of other High School preoccupations. This jars slightly with the photo of the band, as it seems that they are at least in their mid twenties. The songs have nothing to mark them out from the swarm of similar pop-punk no-brainers, except a lead singer that often slips out of key, and a backing singer that has never been near one. I don't know anybody who would listen to this, and I doubt you do either.
