33 hz are a New York 4-piece that has a distinctive Prince influence. ’33 hz’ is an album influenced from the electro funk compositions of George Clinton, ballads by Prince and honey laced sensitivity of the Ohio Players. However 33 hz have a pop element and hints of indie alternative to create their own unique sound. It’s not disco but it has that same safe easily digestible essence. Tim Wagner on keyboards creates some interesting sounds and captures that P-Funk groove on tracks like

‘Digital Lover’ and ‘Chemical Reaction’. The music combined with Benny Lowe’s high-pitched vocals creates a kind of sassy cool with a bit of sexual energy similar to the Scissor Sisters. If you like this camp element you will probably appreciate this kind of funky groove that’s made for a fun, party kind of atmosphere. Yet it’s a bit glossy and borders on cheese for me. I appreciate it’s not trying to be a ballsy album however it doesn’t have the same sensitivity of D’Angelo or the raw energy of Prince.
