MTV execs have decided to cancel the channel’s newest reality programme, Buckwild, after the death of one of the show’s stars.

Last week, 21-year-old Shain Gandee was found dead in his vehicle, along with his uncle and another friend. The cause of death was determined to be carbon monoxide poisoning, due to the vehicle’s tailpipe being submerged in mud. The incident occurred after the group had gone “mudding” – one of the main activities featured on Buckwild.

So, in order to be respectful and probably to avoid criticism as much as possible, MTV has decided to pull the controversial show off the air, after airing just one season. The second season of Buckwild was in the filming stage, but this week, a report by TMZ announced that the Music Television channe; was pulling the plug on the entire production. The move to cancel the show came on the heels of Gandee’s funeral Sunday, during which hundreds of camouflage-clad friends and fans gathered to honor the life of MTV’s newest breakout star.

The network hasn’t announced the specific reason to cancel Buckwild, but a statement is expected later today (Wednesday, April 10). According to one insider, on the day of Gandee's death, MTV executives discussed possibly 'softening' the show by focusing less on such on risky behavior as off-roading and tire roll-downs, but that idea was ultimately rejected for fear of alienating viewers.
