The film will focus on Morrissey’s early life before he formed The Smiths.
Jack Lowden who starred in BBC period drama ‘War and Peace’ earlier this year, has been cast as Morrissey in the upcoming biopic of The Smiths’ frontman. Titled Steven, the film will focus on Morrissey’s pre-Smith’s life and the series of odd jobs he worked before he decided to move into music.
Jack Lowden will play Morrissey in Steven.
Speaking to The Daily Mail, Lowden described Morrissey as ‘a massive icon’ and explained how the film would explore the singer’s life after leaving school and the events which led to him forming the seminal band.

Animal rights activist considers political career.
So, Morrissey is seriously considering entering the race to become Mayor of London, putting forth his vegetarian views as his main political focus. And he only needs £10,000 and a minimum of 330 signatures of support. Suddenly all the other potential candidates don't seem so bad now, do they?
It's one of life's greatest pleasures to be able to escape the Smiths singer's extremist ramblings on vegetarianism with just a few clicks, but it looks like it could be set to be more difficult in the future as he considers taking to politics to press his opinions, because he believes that pressure groups are never going to have any effect until the issue hits the government.

Morrissey's 'List of the Lost' won the dubious trophy on December 1st, and the singer has finally reacted to the award.
Morrissey has brushed off the news of his ignominious triumph in the Bad Sex in Fiction award earlier this month, dismissing the panel who awarded him dubious honour as “replusive horrors”.
The 56 year old published his first novel ‘List of the Lost’ back in September, following his first venture into writing with ‘Autobiography’ back in 2013. In addition to lukewarm reviews, an excerpt from the book describing a sex scene, which referenced a “bulbous salutation”, was nominated by the Literary Review for the Bad Sex award, which it promptly won.

The Mozfather's debut novel 'List of the Lost' was nominated for the dubious honour last month, and has now won it altogether.
Morrissey’s debut novel ‘List of the Lost’ has received the dubious honour of the Bad Sex in Fiction award at a ceremony in London.
The former Smiths singer’s first novel, which followed his 2013 ‘Autobiography’, was panned by critics on its publication in September by Penguin, and its reference to a “bulbous salutation” in a sex scene between two of its characters caught the eye of the judging panel and swayed them sufficiently to declare it the ‘winner’.

Morrissey's 'List of the Lost' may have made him a figure of fun right now, but here's some examples of rock stars writing books and succeeding.
Eagle-eyed indie fans will have seen the hilarious news that Morrissey has been nominated for the ‘Bad Sex Award’ by The Literary Review this week. His first fictional work ‘List of the Lost’, arriving two years after 2013’s notorious ‘Autobiography’, received wildly mixed reviews from most critics.
The nominated passage of ‘erotic’ prose contains the memorable phrase ‘bulbous salutation’. He may be lauded as the lead singer of The Smiths and as a solo artist, but it’s unlikely that his fiction will be remembered in quite the same way, if this is anything to go by.
However, success on the stage doesn’t necessarily preclude a rock star from enjoying successful pursuits as writers. Here are some other, more accomplished examples of rock stars writing prose instead of lyrics.

The singer’s novel ‘List Of The Lost’ has found itself nominated for the infamous prize, thanks to an awkward sex scene.
Morrissey’s debut debut novel, List Of The Lost, has been nominated for one of the most un-coveted prizes in fiction, the ‘Bad Sex Award’ from The Literary Review. The annual awards honour the "most egregious passage of sexual description in a work of fiction”, with the former Smiths frontman emerging as the frontrunner from this year’s nominees.
Morrissey is up for this year’s ‘Bad Sex Award’.
In List Of The Lost's nominated passage, the singer-turned-author writes: ‘At this, Eliza and Ezra rolled together into the one giggling snowball of full-figured copulation, screaming and shouting as they playfully bit and pulled at each other in a dangerous and clamorous rollercoaster coil of sexually violent rotation with Eliza’s breasts barrel-rolled across Ezra’s howling mouth and the pained frenzy of his bulbous salutation extenuating his excitement as it whacked and smacked its way into every muscle of Eliza’s body except for the otherwise central zone.’

Morrissey's record label Harvest Records has denied that the singer has been dropped, despite the former Smiths man telling fans that he's on the hunt for a new home. A post on Morrissey's site True To You stated that the singer and his label had parted ways.
The original post said: "Three weeks after the release of Morrissey's 'World Peace Is None Of Your Business' (#2 UK, #14 US), Capitol Records/Harvest have ended their relationship with Morrissey, as directed by label boss Steve Barnett. Morrissey is once again in search of a record label."

Morrissey has cancelled the rest of his U.S tour after falling ill - but was it Kristeen Young's fault?

The former Smiths frontman was midway through a 30-day tour of North American when he became too ill on Saturday (June 7, 2014). According to a statement, the medical attention he received "was not enough to shake off the virus, the recovery time for which is too lengthy to meet the final nine shows of the tour."

Some would suggest viewing seals as a resource constitutes brainwashing.
While Morrissey has spent a huge amount of time protesting against what he believes to be the maltreatment of animals, all the while regurgitating the title of The Smith’s second studio album, Meat is Murder, Canada’s fisheries minister, Gail Shea, considers the outspoken star to be “brainwashed”.
The accusation comes after Morrissey spoke out against Canada’s annual seal hunt, for which Shea said the singer was "looking for a popularity boost” adding that the controversial cull is a "well-regulated" process that yields "a plentiful and sustainable resource".

'The Walking Dead' star David Morrissey will lend his voice to the autobiography
Morrissey sparked ample conversation last month when he finally released his long-awaited memoirs, titled Autobiography, through Penguin Classics. Over the weekend (on 3 Nov.) we learned that the book will be turned into an audiobook, with Moz being read by another Morrissey: actor David Morrissey.
Morrissey has enlisted the help of Morrissey for the audiobook
The Liverpool-born The Walking Dead star was announced as the man to voice the memoirs through Morrissey fan site True to You, which has garnered a reputation for having a direct line to Mozza and generally being the go-to source for anything Morrissey related. A bluntly put statement posted to the website on Sunday, 3 November, read, "Penguin Classics will release a complete and unabridged digital download of Morrissey's Autobiography on 5 December 2013. The audiobook is read by acclaimed actor David Morrissey."

Tributes have been pouring in for the late, great Lou Reed.
Morrissey is leading the tributes to the late great Lou Reed, who died this week from unknown causes. The legendary Velvet Underground man had been in ill health for a while though his death sent shockwaves through the rock community on Sunday (October 27, 2013).
A number of artists have come forward with touching tributes, including David Bowie, his long-time collaborator John Cale and Morrissey.
Quoting his own song 'Life is a Pigsty' in a post titled "Oh Lou/why did you leave us this way?" on the True To You fan-site, Morrissey said, "No words to express the sadness at the death of Lou Reed. He had been there all of my life. He will always be pressed to my heart. Thank God for those, like Lou, who move within their own laws, otherwise imagine how dull the world would be. I knew the Lou of recent years and he was always full of good heart. His music will outlive time itself. We are all timebound, but today, with the loss of liberating Lou, life is a pigsty.

'Autobiography' is littered with shocking revelations and outrageous claims, so no wonder it has already sold so well
Autobiography is the collected memoirs of Steven Patrick Morrissey, known best simply by his last name, Morrissey. Released after a long, controversial dispute with publishers Penguin (who, under Morrissey's supposed demands released it as a Penguin Classic), the book offers no shortage of controversial and conversation-starting topics spanning the great singer and lyricist's life, which offers little wonder as to why it has become such an instant success.
Mozza has split the critics with his book, but the sales figures suggest otherwise
The book has performed so well already in fact that it has become one of the fastest selling memoirs since records began, and it is now the fastest ever selling autobiography by a musician, overtaking Keith Richards' 2010 release Life. The book is now the second fastest selling memoir of all time, only coming behind Kate McCann’s Madeleine. Then again, the fact that the book was released as an instant Penguin Classic, meaning it could be released in the cheaper paperback format as well as in hardback, may account for some of it's success.

How very NME.
One cold and windy night in August, a band of cloaked NME staffers gathered around the office's Morrissey shrine and asked The Great One what more they could do to worship his glorious name in their eternal plight of penance. A slightly bored-sounding voice answered back "Did you dispose of Elton?"
Morrissey Sticks The Knife In In 'Autobiography.'
"Yes, my Lord," the exultant congregation chimed in unison as the Editor kicked a large, lumpy black sack on the floor. Let there not be a single indie-inclined youngster spawned today who is not tearfully grateful for what We have gifted their ears and relationships."

Morrissey is not a homosexual man. Got that?
Despite releasing an autobiography clocking in at over 500 pages less than a week ago, Morrissey has felt compelled to set the record straight about his sexuality. The former Smiths frontman discussed his relationship with Jake Owen Walters in the book - published under the Penguin Classics imprint - though the singer asserts that he is not gay.
"Unfortunately, I am not homosexual. In technical fact, I am humasexual," he wrote in a note posted on the fansite True To You. "I am attracted to humans. But, of course ... not many."
In the hotly anticipated memoir Autobiography, the singer claimed he was in his mid-thirties before he entered into his first serious relationship - with Jake. "...for the first time in my life the eternal 'I' becomes 'we,' as, finally, I can get on with someone," he writes.

The star also rants against Rough Trade, NME and anyone else that has wronged him in his life
Morrissey's new autobiography, tentatively title Autobiography, was released this week later than scheduled and to an eagerly awaiting public who couldn't wait to read about the singer's usually cloaked personal life. Early criticism has arisen from the book straight away, with many claiming that the former Smiths frontman comes off as self-important and spiteful, as he spends most of the book lambasting those who have wronged him throughout his life.
The book has received some criticism
One of the main targets that the singer looks to take down is the UK justice system, in particular, how it treated him during his court case against his former bandmate Mike Joyce during the 1990's. In particular, Morrissey attacks the judges who presided over the case individually, calling one the "pride of the pipsqueakery," and going on to attack other court officials he feels were on a personal vendetta against him. It wasn't just the court system that bore the brunt of his criticism though, as he alos went on to attack the one-time Smiths drummer of "constant inaccuracies and assumptions vomited out with leaden fatigue" in court.

The autobiography hadn't even been out for a full day, before it was spoofed.
What was that about imitation and flattery? Perhaps Peter Serafinowicz’s musical rendition of the first page of Morrissey’s recently published autobiography wasn’t the most cleverly executed bit of comedy ever, but it does create some welcome publicity for the comedian – as well as the book itself. In the minute-and-a-half video, Serafinowicz imitates Morrissey’s trademark style, crooning about the street he grew up on.
Morrissey held a book signing in Gothenburg, Sweden today (October 17).
There is something to the parody though, considering the first page of the book goes on for more than four pages. It’s a bit confusing, but still a solid parody. The comedian does have some experience with this particular parody, having previously performed it in a youtube video, spoofing a Stone Roses documentary.

Morrissey's autobiography was reportedly set to be released in Penguin's classics range.
Morrissey, the former Smiths frontman, has ditched plans to release his autobiography just three days before it was due to be published.
The memoirs were set to document the 54-year-old's life growing up in Manchester, his time with The Smiths - one of Britain's greatest ever bands - and, crucially, his relationship with former song-writing partner Johnny Marr.
During an interview with BBC Radio 4's Front Row, Morrissey said he wanted the book to be released as part of the recognisable Penguin Classic series, despite the publisher rarely bestowing the title upon new writing.

Is Morrissey done with live shows now?
Poor health has forced Morrissey to disappoint his American contingent by cancelling the remaining 22 shows of his U.S tour. This is just the latest health-related performance-stopper for the aging rocker, and it begs the question: has he had enough?
These aren’t minor ailments. Morrissey has been suffering, in recent months, from a bleeding ulcer, a condition of the oesophagus and double pneumonia. All of these are capable of killing a man, so we wouldn’t be surprised if The Smiths star hung up his microphone, and, probably most importantly for his health, eased it up on the controversial comments; bleeding ulcers are often related to stress. And he gets a lot of that every time he makes an allegedly racist comment. "Despite his best efforts to try to continue touring, Morrissey has to take a hiatus and will not be able to continue on the rest of the tour,” explained his publicist in a statement. "Morrissey thanks all of his fans for their well wishes and thoughts."
Have we seen the last of this?

Former Smiths front man and chat show host lock horns after star's no-show
Morrissey’s cancellation of his appearance on The Jimmy Kimmel Live! was only going to end badly, with a highly principled artist and a chat show host desperate to get a laugh out of anything, clashing in what, really, was the most tedious of ways.
As most of you probably know by now, staunch vegetarian Morrissey dropped out of his scheduled appearance on the show after discovering that Kimmel’s other guests were the Duck Dynasty, an American family who makes products for duck hunters. This provided ammunition for Kimmel to use when the show eventually came around on Tuesday (February 26, 2013); according to Slicing Up Eyeballs, Kimmel said that he sided with the Dynasty because ‘they had guns and Morrissey didn’t’, and also mocked the singer for repeatedly “finding ways to depress us”. The show also featured a skit where the Dynasty hunted for vegetables.
Never one to back down, Morrissey has since issue a statement on fan site True To You, writing “I was disappointed with last night's Jimmy Kimmel Show wherein our smiling host managed to ridicule depression (70% of Americans have experienced depression according to the National Institute of Mental Health). He then found time to ridicule healthy eating (the obesity epidemic in the U.S. costs $147 billion per year in medical expenditure), and he also ridiculed the notion that animals should be entitled to the possession of their own lives.”

Morrissey refused to appear on Jimmy Kimmel Live citing 'moral' reasons against the other guests, Duck Dynasty, who he dubbed "serial killers."
These days, most of what Morrissey does is a bit laughable. His music is no where near as good as his Smiths hey-day and his political actions and comments, which are abundant, seem in many ways self indulgent and attention seeking. His latest stunt is to refuse to appear on Jimmy Kimmel Live over his abhorrence of the livelihood of that episode's other guests, reality TV stars from 'Duck Dynasty'.
Morrissey has been a spokesperson for animal rights for a long time, which is lovely and we fully support him in his message. That's where his problem with Duck Dynasty cast members, who are a deep South family from the US whose business is making equipment for duck hunting.
In a statement, Morrissey said he "cannot morally be on a television programme where the cast members of Duck Dynasty will also be guests," but "would be honoured to play the show, if Duck Dynasty were removed." He added: "As far as my reputation is concerned, I can't take the risk of being on a show alongside people who, in effect, amount to animal serial killers. If Jimmy cannot dump Duck Dynasty then we must step away." The singer seems to be missing a trick there, ignoring the possibility of creating some vegan converts in the Duck Dynasty family. Alas, perhaps he was a little short sighted.

The Smiths front man doesn't want to share billing with the Duck Dynasty cast
Morrissey has been forced to pull out of yet another scheduled appearance, with his jaunt to the US increasingly looking to be in tatters. However, it’s not illness that’s forced him to drop out of the Jimmy Kimmel Live! Show, but his principals – something we’ve seen time and time again from Mozza.
The former Smiths front man has released a statement on the site True To You, which points out that he would have been on the same show as the cast of Duck Dynasty – something that he cannot abide by. “Morrissey is thankful for being invited to perform on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ tomorrow, February 26. However, he cannot morally be on a television program where the cast members of ‘Duck Dynasty’ will also be guests” the statement reads. “Morrissey would be honored to play the show, if Duck Dynasty were removed.” Continuing, the statement quotes Morrissey as saying “As far as my reputation is concerned, I can’t take the risk of being on a show alongside people who, in effect, amount to animal serial killers. If Jimmy cannot dump Duck Dynasty then we must step away.”
Duck Dynasty, if you weren’t sure, is a reality television show on A&E based around the Robertson family, who’ve managed to make their fortune by making products for duck hunters. As a strict vegetarian and animal rights protestor, you can certainly see why Morrissey wouldn’t be up for sharing a couch with them.

Morrissey’s sold out concert in Los Angeles on March 1st will be strictly vegetarian, according to a report.
The former Smiths man is of course known for his strong vegetarian stance, which has long worked its way into his songs and lyrics, and he has previous history with regards playing at meat-serving venues as well. In 2009 the singer famously stormed off the stage Coachella after claiming he could smell “burning flesh”, and various reports last year claimed that the Californian event’s organizers promised a meat-free festival if he reformed The Smiths for 2013.
The BBC reports that The Staples Center in LA will not serve any meat on the night of the March 1st, in light of Morrissey urging them to close down their McDonalds stores and banish the sale of “flesh as food”. In a short statement by the artist, he said "I don't look upon it as a victory for me, but a victory for the animals." Of course, at the moment there’s no guarantee Morrissey will even make the concert, given health the issues he’s been suffering from. Currently struggling from a bleeding ulcer, he’s had to postpone a series of US dates, and wont’ be returning until the Live With Jimmy Kimmel TV show on February 26th; should he still be struggling with his recovery, this LA show date could well be ultimately postponed too.

Johnny Marr will be crowned Godlike Genius of the Year at this year’s NME Awards. Marr, whose distinctive guitar licks were combined with Morrissey’s song-writing skills to make The Smiths the legendary band that they are, has also played in Modest Mouse and – more recently, joined the three Wakefield brothers The Cribs.
The NME Awards will be held at The Troxy in East London, on Wednesday February 27, 2013, where Marr will collect his gong. Marr’s about to release his debut solo album The Messenger and speaking about the award, said “It is a very nice thing to be getting this award and I am honoured. The NME seems to be good at giving this award to people I like so I’m in good company. I guess it means that some things are alright with the world.” His previous band mate Morrissey won’t be expecting any such honour any time soon; he has fallen out with the magazine on a number of occasions, most recently when they printed an article that he felt had branded him a racist.
The magazine’s editor, Mike Williams, said “All hail Johnny Marr, NME Godlike Genius 2013 and the newest recruit into NME’s holy order of music legends. And what a legend he is! Not content with rewriting the history of music with one of the world’s greatest ever bands, The Smiths, he’s continued to push boundaries and evolve throughout his career, working with some of the best and most exciting artists on the planet.” Johnny follows in the footsteps of 2012’s Godlike Genius, Noel Gallagher, which just goes to show, there’s no justice in the world. Or no huge commitment to chronology, perhaps.

We are joking, of course, but David Bowie clearlty doesn't want any confusion surrounding his forthcoming album 'The Next Day', so much so that he's slapped down Manchester misanthrope Morrissey following a request for a photograph of the pair. On April 8, Parlophone will reissue Morrissey's 1991 record Kill Uncle, as well as the 1989 single The Last of the Famous International Playboys, however the intended artwork will have to be changed.
Morrissey had hoped to use a previously unseen 1992 photo of himself with Bowie taken by Linder in New York, though the Where Are We Now? singer has demanded that EMI UK not use the image. A statement on the official Morrissey fan-site True To You read, "David Bowie has ordered EMI UK not to run the proposed artwork for Morrissey's April 8th issue of the re-mastered 'The Last of the Famous International Playboys' single and CD." It continues, "Although Bowie has no legal rights to the photograph, most of his back catalogue is presently licensed to EMI."
Morrissey is yet to comment on the request and is currently ill and taking a break from live shows. Bowie meanwhile is preparing for the release of his new album in March, with talk of possible live shows reaching fever pitch.

Morrissey has been forced to postpone six live dates after it was revealed that the former front man of The Smiths was suffering from a bleeding ulcer.
The outspoken performer is just getting going on a nationwide US tour, but has had to cancel dates already, including last Thursday (January 24, 2013) in Michigan, a Friday night performance in Minneapolis (January 25) and Chicago (January 26). This was down to an illness that struck one of his band members, but now that Morrissey himself is ailing, it’s cost him more dates; the star has cancelled Asheville, North Carolina; Nashville, Tennessee; Atlanta, Georgia; Lawrence, Kansas; Clear Lake, Iowa; and Lincoln, Nebraska. He isn’t expecting to be able to resume his schedule until February 9 in Las Vegas. "Morrissey is expected to make a full recovery and thanks everyone concerned for their support during this time," his representative Lauren Papapietro said in a statement, reported by Reuters.
Morrissey is currently without a record deal and, last year, all but admitted to Australia’s Herald Sun that he’d given up on getting one. The singer commented “The horizon remains bleak. But I accept it now. I exist only in the live arena, or on You Tube, and that's the full extent of it. Talent is now so artificially shaped that to tour successfully and to have integrity and meaning to whatever you do are utterly foreign commodities to the music industry.”

After Morrissey cancelled a concert scheduled for this past Thursday in Flint, Michigan, it has been revealed by Billboard that the reason behind the cancelation was because the singer has been admitted to the Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, a suburb of Detroit.
The former Smiths lead initially cancelled the show in Flint and another one on Friday, because of a band illness. However, it has come to light that it was actually Morrissey himself who was ill and is now undergoing further tests. This has lead to another cancellation – this time of the Chicago show on Saturday. There’ve been no further announcements about Morrissey’s condition, but the tour is currently looking uncertain at best. Some other shows have been scheduled in Las Vegas, Nashville and Atlanta, but even those further off might be cancelled, it seems.
A spokesperson for the performer has refused to reveal whether he has been released from the hospital quite yet, and his condition is still unknown. All of the tickets for the cancelled tour dates have been refunded by the respective venues, but the fans will be disappointed nonetheless. The tour, which started earlier in January, had barely even kicked off, when the sudden setback put a pin in it for an indefinite amount of time.
Morrissey Arrives For The Late Show With David Letterman This Week Wearing Fetching White Nail Polish
Never one to mince his words, Morrissey has taken aim at the Beckhams in his latest rant, labelling David and Victoria "insufferable" and suggesting he'd have them "dragged to the edge of the village and flogged." The former Smiths man has taken aim at Sir Paul McCartney, the London Olympics and the Royal Family in recent months, though the former Manchester United star and his fashion designer wife have come in for particular scorn.
Speaking to Loaded magazine, the 53-year-old mused, "I'd... have the Peckhams dragged to the edge of the village and flogged because they are insufferable to anyone of intelligence, and they actively chase the paparazzi." Following the end of his contract with the Los Angeles Galaxy, it is rumoured that Beckham will search for new employment in London. He and Victoria are reportedly renting a home in Kensington, West London, in time for the new school term, though Morrissey thinks it's bad news for everyone involved. "We don't seem to realise that David and Victoria Peckham will soon be back and god forbid they will be bestowed with titles Sir and Lady Peckham, this is what's wrong with this country, we don't seem to care," he said, adding, "Football often seems to me to have no meaning whatsoever other than just to be there. It can't be elevated any higher because so many footballers are paid £200,000 a week, yet couldn't identify a harp."

While certainly there are an increasing number of anti-royalists, The Smiths' Morrissey is leading the pack by blaming the Royal Family, and particularly Kate Middleton, for the tragic death of nurse Jacintha Saldanha.
Jacintha Saldanha was the nurse who picked up the phone to two Australian radio pranksters, pretending to be the Queen while Kate Middleton was in hospital suffering with severe morning sickness. She put the call through to the ward and is was broadcast, the following day the story had broken around the world to reactions of both amusement and outrage. Contact Music has repeatedly reported that the search for blame is a futile one, Morrissey seems to have complete conviction that the blame lies with the Royal Family, reports 3News in New Zealand.
"The arrogance of the British Royals is staggering. Absolutely staggering." He said, questioning whether Kate's health problems were real, "Does she have a health condition? Is it anorexia or is it pregnancy? We don't know. . Morning sickness already? . and suddenly she's bright as a button as soon as this woman dies? It doesn't ring true." As well as saying that the Palace and Clarence House must've piled a lot of pressure on Ms Saldanha, he completely brushed over the radio station and the DJ's responsibility in the matter. To be fair to Morrissey he also lay some of the blame at the door of the press, saying "I'm sure the British press hounded this woman, to her death."

Morrissey combined his two favourite bugbears - the British royal family and meat-eaters - into one long grumble to the Australian press recently, calling Prince Harry an "idiot" in reaction to recent nude images of him coming out from a holiday in Las Vegas, and lambasting Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton for their actions and attitudes towards animals.
Talking to Australia's news.com, Morrissey said "I wasn't surprised by Harry in Vegas because he's always been an absolute idiot." Varying on his topic, the outspoken musicians said "The monarchy is foremost a business, and it's important to them that the British public continue to finance the excessive luxurious lifestyles of the now quite enormous, wasteful and useless 'royal' family. I find it very sad."
Turning his attentions to Will and Kate, Morrissey scorned "William shoots deer, Kate's favorite food is the shockingly cruel fois gras, Harry shoots water buffalo. They are the most dysfunctional, unpleasant and arrogant people on the planet, a sour soap opera, and they should resign and retire." Ramming home his belief that the royal family were nothing other than an embarrassment, the singer raged "Can you imagine how the Prime Minister of Argentina viewed Harry in Vegas? Or the Pope? Or the Archbishop of Canterbury?"
