Police is Seattle have discovered the body of a woman, thought to be that of the missing actress Misty Upham. The 32-year-old Native American actress was found in a ravine near the White River on Thursday, with police spokesman Steve Stocker confirming that items confirming Upham's identity were found nearby.

Officials are still waiting for the medical examiner to make a positive identification, Stocker noted.

Her uncle Robert found Upham's body during a search of the area he organized with a group of friends and family. Her close friend, the Seattle-based filmmaker Tracy Rector was also part of the search.

"We waited at the site where the team found the body," Rector told the Hollywood Reporter, "It took about five-and-a-half hours to confirm. Then we gathered around her body to say prayers and now we're all gathered at the church."

Known for her roles in August: Osage County and Frozen River, Upham was reported missing by her family on October 6, one day after they told police she was in a suicidal state. Her father Charles Upham told Krio-FM that his daughter had stopped taking her medication for anxiety and bipolar disorder.

Within hours of the news breaking, some of Hollywood's biggest names paying tribute to the actress, including Oscar-winner Meryl Streep, who starred in August: Osage County.

"So so sad to hear this news - all our thoughts are with her family and with her beautiful spirit," she told the Hollywood Reporter.

Melissa Leo, another Oscar-winner whose character collaborated with Upham's to smuggle illegal immigrants from Canada into America, said: "Such a loss... so sad, so so sad."
