They’ve just announced their first North American tour in nearly a decade, but Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards is keen for the band to take on more work. In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine (confusingly…), the rock legend wants them to record a new album.

The 71 year old guitarist revealed that “we're talking about doing some recording after this tour, but there's nothing definite. We just threw out the idea. I'd like to get the boys back in the studio again, yeah. Anything can happen.”

The Stones last released a studio album ten years ago, with the well-received A Bigger Bang doing well on both sides of the Atlantic. The only new material they’ve released since then was the one-off track ‘Doom and Gloom’, released to support their 2012 greatest hits set GRRR!

Richards’ comments come soon after the Stones’ frontman Mick Jagger revealed that he had written a handful of songs with a few to a new album. These two bits of news are sure to excite fans of classic rock, as the legendary group begin the 53rd year of their existence.

And as if that wasn’t enough, Richards also indicated that his third solo album is in the pipeline. “I think that's coming out in September. We're looking for the right time slot to bring it out. The Stones have been working so much lately that I've been holding off until we could find a reasonable time. I think it’s September, but I don't know for sure.”

He might also be touring the new album, adding “That's being kicked around. At the moment, I'm just getting my head into the Stones and I haven't really thought about what I'm going to do afterwards. But usually if I put a record out, I do some road work. So, it's possible.”

News has also come out recently suggesting that the Stones might perform the entirety of their 1971 album Sticky Fingers. Playing an old album in its correct order in full is of course a lucrative money earner for a lot of classic artists.
