Metallica are heading to North America for the next leg of their WorldWired Tour, marking their first major US comeback in eight years. They'll be setting out in Spring, and the name of the tour suggests that won't be the last we see of them by any means.

The thrash metal band will bring their 'Hardwired... To Self-Destruct' album to stages everywhere with a 25-date tour across the US and Canada, kicking off on May 10th at Baltimore's M&T Bank Stadium and concluding at Edmonton, Alabama's Commonwealth Stadium on August 16th. Avenged Sevenfold, Volbeat and Gojira are the supporting acts.

The WorldWired Tour includes stops at festivals the likes of Rock On The Range in Ohio and Festival D'Ete in Quebec. Before all that though, they are due in Central and South America, playing a three night residency at Mexico's Foro Sol in March with Iggy Pop opening and then appearances at Lollapalooza in Brasil, Argentina and Chile.

Metallica also have a performance booked for September 2nd at the Royal Arena in Copenhagen, Denmark. The band haven't been on a proper US tour since 2009 when they did their World Magnetic Tour in support of their ninth studio album 'Death Magnetic'.

'Hardwired... To Self-Destruct' was the follow-up. Released in November 2016 and reaching number one in the US charts, the album ended the longest gap between recordings ever for Metallica. The all-round critical success, however, made it seriously worth it.

The band performed their first series of 'warm-up shows' for the WorldWired Tour in September and October. They've already visited Latin America, and have had a handful of shows in the US, Europe and Asia (not to mention last night's collaboration with Lady Gaga at the Grammys) but it's the real deal now.

Tickets for the newly announced dates will be made available on February 17th 2017.
